Good Wednesday everyone and welcome to the first day of Spring. While the calendar says spring, old man winter is getting the last laugh as a winter looking and feeling pattern engulfs much of the country. At this point… those of us wanting some honest to goodness spring warmth are ready to throw in the towel.
A weak system is working across the state today and will bring a touch of rain and snow showers… especially across the south and southeast. The big news from this front will be the amount of cold air that pours in behind it for tonight and Thursday. Readings by tomorrow morning will be in the upper teens and lower 20s. Check out the high temps from the NAM…
Those highs are at or below where our normal LOW temps should be at this time of year. That brings us to a very active weather period that will feature two systems we will have to deal with. The first arrives in western Kentucky on Friday with some rain and snow.
Moisture looks to increase across central and eastern Kentucky Friday night into Saturday and that’s likely to be in the form of a mix. That is showing up well on the GFS…
That would likely transition to all rain during the day, but it bears watching. The main storm system will then roll our way Sunday into early Monday. The models are still trying to figure it out, but the amount of blocking suggests the European Model and the farther southward solution may be correct…
That scenario would mean rain for Sunday would go over to a shot of snow Sunday night or Monday as the low wraps up to our east. It would also tug down another monster blast of cold air that would be accompanied by widespread snow showers into the middle of next week.
WHY…………..? does it,know matter what season, it always comes down to an over performing backside low. The only thing in the middle of the road is yellow lines and dead animals. Please just rain and be warm or snow and be cold. I cannot take it anymore.
Yeah, even in this prolonged winter season, most of the state only gets measly wraparound snow. Meanwhile, Winter Storm Watches are out in Arkansas. It’s not just central KY with a dome. It’s all of western KY too. ๐ ๐
Let’s see if the wait for the arrival of spring will be as long as we had to wait on the arrival of winter.
Congrats to Georgetown!
Oh, bother…..
hey I remember reading last week about accumulating snow for today …… what happened to it? its going to be cloudy and 50 here, was he talking about the NEXT WEEK maybe, or the next week … hey next week is here jack and I see nothing coming out of the sky cept maybe some bird poo
Why do you have to bash Chris in every post, he’s only the messenger, NOT THE WEATHER. If your mad, blame the weather model’s or just the weather itself. CB certainly can’t make it snow, so does mother nature unless it feels like it. Chris puts time into this blog and I’m not trying to bash on you either. Just be a little more respectful please, or just get your weather information from somewhere else. Have a great day ๐
Israel…Can’t agree with you more. You have to take a five to 10 day outlook with lots of optimism. Especially for Kentucky and snow! As I see it CB never says IT IS GOING TO SNOW! Only there will be a LOW roll through that bears watching. I too would love everyone of them to be snow makers, but if you have followed this site long enough all the little weather wennies out there will tell you it will be be 33 and cold rain for most of us.
never one time have I bashed anyone – I just disagree and last time I check, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. The weather where I am has been nothing like the forecast he puts out all winter. I have been on this blog for over 5 yrs now, posted under another name and it is always the same, when you disagree you get bullied by others and it is really ridiculous.
to the other post – Chris Mercer, I never said it was already 50, it is forecasted from another source to be cloudy and 50…. people needs to chill on this site!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have no idea who you are but i could not agree more but i think i know what the problem may be or it may be a combo of 2 things…..1st is wildcats had a down year, went from being national champs to not even making the tourney…look that 1 up in the record books todd and mark and 2nd..another snowless winter for most folks in ky. has got people in ky in somewhat of a bad mood or it could be both of these……seems as though if you don’t just say the right things on here, either you are a troll or you get bashed……well i speak my opinion, like it or not and if i get banned, i get banned.
And tomorrow, you will say someone else got on your account and said this.
tell me you have never been hacked, mrs. or mr. prissy.
Is ” hey I remember reading last week about accumulating snow for today โฆโฆ what happened to it?” An opinion? (Is that disagreeing?) It seems your expressing in your comment that you remember reading CHRIS’S post for accumulating snow last week for today. When you said “what happened to it?” Your implying that he was wrong and expressing it in a disrespectful way. I don’t know where you live but if the forecast from CB is always wrong, then maybe you shouldn’t apply his forecast to your area because here in Lexington, he’s been right about all the time. Sorry if you consider my comment bullying you. I’m just politely trying to say, please don’t be so disrespectful because comments like those disturb the enviorment. Then everyone doesn’t like you. I have nothing against you in any way.
50 and cloudy? You must be living right. 23 and sunny here this morning on the way to a balmy 42 or 43. Looks like might be lucky to crack freezing. And Chris was exactly correct when he called out this Cold pattern for the rest of the month several weeks ago. I remember people ridiculing that call and it looks to have turned out well to me.
Unclesi…go back to your swamp and blow! At least if you are going to appropriate Uncle Si’s name add a bit of his character~ which is so much more real, humble and self-deprecating than your habitual grating and griping….”hey, just saying!”
May be best not to feed this “unclesi” troll. Not always a clear-cut decision to be sure. It can be tempting and even pragmatic to correct the troll’s more confounding errors. But replying to this troll may also be doing more to fuel its fire than anything else.
Itโs one thing to respectfully disagree (including with CB) yet without being overly disagreeable. But this is not that situation. It seems the โunclesiโ troll wishes to do little more than get a double thrill; both throwing up manure and then craving the negative attention it gets from others. A masochistic narcissist of sorts, as unfortunate as this may be.
CB has shown remarkable tolerance with the โunclesiโ troll, perhaps partly because of this troll’s ignorance about weather. Nothing wrong with ignorance, we all have to start somewhere. But this troll compounds this by foolishly pretending to know more than it really does.
This is sad …. My husband and I used to love this blog and been reading for 3yrs now but seeing this makes me sick. I don’t agree with uncle si comments but he or she never trashed anyone on here nor did he ever talk to others negatively, he/she simply disagreed with Chris’s comments. But you
on the other hand have went overboard on it. You said Chris has tolarated it, if he wanted to do something about it, he would have banned it long ago but Chris is much more of an adult than you heathens. I hate to say, but my husband and I are done here, moving to another blog. Take care to you that care about the weather … Mark all I can say is I hope you treat people in real life better than you do typing behind a computer. God bless all !!!
Actually, Chris has been repeatedly bashed the last month or so by this individual. See the archives for yourself.
CB has directly confronted this individual the last few days. If anything, CB’s relative restraint speaks volumes of his good character. Others in CB’s place might have banned long ago. Like Chris has done with other posters, we trust Chris will moderate when he feels it’s the right time.
So there is a red flag warning for southeastern KY because of windy conditions and low relative humidity? Even after ALL of the dampness we’ve had………How could there possibly be a fire danger……it’s that dry already?

If you ever have a question, “why a winery weather advisory?” Or anything else. They usually explain why.

Well winters officially over, Frankfort ended up with a little over 13 inches of snow, atleast in my backyard part of the world, missed a few big snows or this would have been a very snowy winter! IF it Snows now does it count?? Do we keep spring snow records??
13 Wow! We had 3 in my part of Richmond, at most! And never more than 1 inch at any one time… The K River Wall is unbreachable it seems!
5 to 8 inches of snow expected in southern Missouri and parts of northern Arkansas! The farmers in those areas need the moisture so I’m glad for them, we could have snow by Sunday Night!
This transition into spring could get ugly when the warm air decides to arrive ?? Bad storms in our future?
Its coming spring that is just like ky basketball it’s coming just have to wait a little while
So, looks like the chances of snow are diminishing even as we speak…..as usual… That’ ok with me, however, I’m not ok with its replacement. That’s right ladies and gentlemen….more cold weather and yes that’s right…..more of that wonderful cold rain that distinguishes us from the rest of the country. Welcome to Seattle, I mean Kentucky!!! I’m SO ready to move back to Atlanta…..
I know very little about how weather systems work, so I’m going to throw this question out there in hopes someone can answer it. Is it possible that having a cold spring will mean summer will be mild? Or are those two things mutually exclusive? I’m not enjoying this spring any more than the next guy, but if it means that June/July/August will actually be pleasant this year & I’ll be able to enjoy being outdoors, I’m 100% A-OK with it. Last year, I can remember it being downright hot in March & then summer was absolutely unbearable. Forgive me if someone has asked this question before, but if they have, I missed it. I honestly may not want to hear the answer to it because thinking this is the only thing that’s kept me from dying of Cabin Fever this spring.
Sitting in my living room in Hyden, KY. There are snow flurries falling outside my window, and the wind is blowing them in all directions. I am watching a leaf being blown straight up into the sky. When the sun was shining today it was bearable….but now. Sigh.
Hopefully this extended cold below freezing weather will help keep the bugs in check a little bit this year, Wow, might drop to the upper teens tonight in Frankfort!
When we get get back to normal temps it will feel GREAT!
GET?
Already down to 26 here in Lawrenceburg. Record low in the Mid Teens for tomorrow. Can we break it?
Next we will probably have rough storms due to the cold temps this late running into the warmer air.
