Good Wednesday evening to one and all. The final day of fall felt more like spring out there as showers and thunderstorms and temps in the low 60s were noted for some. Now comes another soaker of a storm for Thursday. What about Christmas weekend? Is all hope lost?
Let’s break it down…
– A fast moving system works from southwest to northeast across the state Thursday with heavy rain likely. Many areas will pick up an additional half to one inch of water. Yippee!
– A weak front will be stretched out across the state on Friday and this allows for colder air to bleed in. This is likely to have enough juice for a rain or snow shower into the afternoon and evening. This shows up on the latest GFS…
– What happens after this is still up in the air. The models are awfully close to phasing energy across Texas with energy dropping in from the northwest. If they do this… you get your Christmas Day storm to form. The 6z GFS was doing everything it could to bring this system back…
Let’s see how this plays out into Thursday and Friday as I still don’t think the models have a good grasp on how to handle all the energy that’s out there.
A full update comes your way later tonight, as usual. Enjoy the rest of your evening and take care.

I have officially given up on this weekend, just don’t see it happening. Although I do believe there is a LOT of winter ahead…
Help a brotha out! Could it snow on the plateau?
This winter is all about Clipper systems & over performing backside lows. I am not impress about the future.
I hope this Mess phases and surprises us all!
I think it would take a Christmas miracle at this point!
that run of GFS looks decent for extreme SEKY.
What does Decent mean.
i hope the entire winter is 50 and sun until february, then i hope we get a 15” snowstorm, then i hope spring commences 3 days later 🙂
i can not believe what i am reading today from all the dedicated people that have kept this blog what it is today for the past umteen years and also from the man himself, chris bailey.
here it is still 4 days away from a possible snow storm, the players have not even reached the playing field yet but yet every one is ready to write this thing off. heck the nam, one of the best models known of in the winter at 3 days out will not have this on radar until late tonight/early thursady.
what is wrong with every one today? i tell u what is wrong and that is every one got spoiles last few years with early out of season snows both on front and back ends.
even chris last year was complaining last season cause it started snowing in late nov. and we were still getting snow in april.
now this year he is ready to write winter off just because we do not have any snow by the 1st day of calendar winter,…..folks it is not supposed to snow in the fall of the year.
i just can not believe all this garbade i am reading today here on what i thought was a great weather blog coming from a great weather forecaster that i thought knew better than to bite on just 1 or 2 model runs especially when it comes to the lowly gfs but i am starting to wonder, hhhhmmmmmm……….
Rolo,
I have followed you for many years and have valued your opinions and expertise in the weather field. You have much to offer. Please be careful when being critical of others who may also have problems. My son has been a drug adict and is now 6 months clean. He is still in rehab and will remain there for quite some time. Your reference to this person as a TATTOO DRUG ADDICT is a very poor choice of words. You of all people should not be so judgemental. I hope that you have a very merry Chrismas and a happy New Year.
I have a question for Chris or whoever may know the answer. Are we ever going to get any SNOW this winter?? I mean geez, it’s 50s, 60s, and sunny out there. Plus Chris always has a winter forecast out by now but I haven’t seen one.
Everyone needs to calm down. I remember the winter of 83 / 84 it was in the 70s on New Years day if I recall correctly. It proceeded to snow over a foot one day later on a Friday. However, it all melted away over the weekend and school opened on Monday to my surprise. However, the fun wasn’t over as we ended up getting out of school early either that Monday or Tuesday due to another little snow and didn’t go back to school until March. Had a couple of good snows and several little ones that kept us out. The thing to remember is that it was in the 70s at the first of the year and we still had one of the best winters ever. The majority of the time our area does not get much snow before the first of the year. Last year was one of the exceptions in that. Maybe this years exception will be a Monster storm. No matter what it is to early to give up on winter when Christmas hasn’t even arrived. Merry Christmas and be patient.
i could not have said it better. rolo, here to u buddy, i am not talking behind your back good buddy but with all the sickness u have endured and as many people praying for u as u have praying for u, please do not be so quick with the poor choice of words and try not to be so quick to judge others. remember, judge not lest ye be judged himself.
Looking at he 0z nam,it does have moisture coming out of tx. Probably a tease.
I have not either bro. I love the winter forecast issued by the legend but I must have missed it or something. and I am still waiting on this locked and loaded pattern to unleash. Not seen the first flake this year
