Good Wednesday, everyone. We have an honest to goodness blast of summer air blowing across the state today. This will push thermometers well into the 80s and may flirt with a record or two in the west. This air will turn humid over the next few days and that will help lead to more in the way of showers and storms.
Temps today will hit the middle 80s for most of central and eastern Kentucky. Upper 80s to near 90 degrees will be noted across the west. Yes… I said 90 degrees 2 days after frost.
A cold front slides into the Ohio Valley and checks up on Thursday. This will cause scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop. This will become a theme for the weekend as a daily threat for some boomers will be with us.
A strong cold front approaches by late Tuesday and this will lead to an increase in showers and storms. We will deal with the strong or severe threat as we get closer. Right now… the models are forecasting some pretty good rain totals over the next week…
Heavy rain will be the biggest threat from the storms that go up and that just means our soggy spring and year rolls on.
Many models are hinting at another big change toward cooler for the middle and end of next week. The European Model is toying with the idea of another slow moving cutoff low…
Let’s hope that’s not the case.
Have a great day and take care.
These MCS’s (mesoscale convective system) can dump a lot of water on us from on thursday, hopefully thats not the case. The pattern is looking very ripe for another blocking pattern and/or cut-off low. No, the cold is still not done yet.

NOAA long range not biting on the euro models gloomy cut off low, even if it does the atmosphere will not cool down that much this time of year do to strong sun!
Let’s hope that doesn’t pan out–if so we could have some close to record cold highs. Here are the record low maxes for Lexington for next Wednesday-Sunday (May 22-26)
May 22: 54 (1931)
May 23: 54 (1931)
May 24: 56 (1940)
May 25: 50 (1979)
May 26: 52 (1901)
We have had a day with a high in the 50’s as late as June 15 and as early as August 30.
Temp here in Frankfort 86, looks like we are pushing higher than forecast, lets hope the cooler stuff in the long range
disappears in the next few days!
Normal temps are hard to come by around KY these days???
Very hard. We went from 15-20 degrees below normal on Sunday and Monday to 12 degrees above today. Normal high/low is 74/54. Today is just about a perfect summer day though. Upper 80’s, manageable dewpoint, nice breeze. If only July and August were like this!
Agree with you on that, just a matter of time when the ugly humidity joins the party 🙁
Yea–you are right. If our dewpoints stayed in the 50’s all summer this place would rock!
Thanks, Chris. Lets hope that doggone cut off low does NOT develop. I can handle rain with warmer temps a lot easier than I can a cold rain. Still, I have to say that I am enjoying the beautiful weather we are having today! Hope everyone getrs the chance to get out and enjoy it. Have a great Wednesday, everyone, and, Chris, tell that cold weather to get out of here and stay where it belongs this time of year! 😉
