Good evening, everybody. Our weekend is off and running on a pretty dreary note with low clouds and drizzle in many areas. With better weather blowing in for the weekend, we continue to focus on a winter pattern developing next week.
The setup for next week will feature a MASSIVE upper level low spinning slowly across our region and into the eastern part of the country. This thing will have a lot of cold air to work with, meaning snow is a possibility under and near the track of the upper low and surface low.
Exactly where those two set up is what is the work in progress, but it does look more and more like our region is in the running for winter weather.
Here’s the GFS showing how this bowling ball upper low spins through here and slows down and deepens to our northeast. This animation goes from Wednesday morning through next weekend…
A cold front precedes that upper low, bringing showers and some thunderstorms in here Monday night and Tuesday. That cold front slows down with another, stronger, low pressure forming along that. This low should really deepen with such a strong upper level feature and it may do so on top of the Ohio Valley before pushing slowly into the eastern Great Lakes.
The latest GFS shows that low spinning in an area that would be rain to snow for our region…
The Canadian is a bit farther east with that storm system, but would still mean light snows and flakes around here Thursday and Friday…
The late afternoon run of the EURO only goes through Thursday afternoon, but it’s farther west into our region like the GFS…
As you can see, the potential for some early season winter weather is certainly there for Thursday and Friday of next week. Is it just a few festive flakes or something a little more exciting? Again, that’s a work in progress.
Once all this action moves away, we head into Thanksgiving week with a bit of a rebound in temps to start with the potential for another winter look at some point over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The EURO shows that well…
The GFS Ensembles are also going toward another deep trough sliding into the eastern US for the big weekend…
I’ll see you guys for a full update later tonight. Have a great rest of your evening and take care.
