Good Thursday to my fellow weather lovers. Today is shaping up to be another stormy day across our part of the world as a cold front finally moves across the state. These storms are not expected to be severe, but gusty winds will be noted along the front. What’s behind the front will be the big story over the next few days as temps take a dive.
The showers and storms today will be sparse early then increase during the afternoon and evening. Your obligatory radar…
Temps will hit the low and mid 70s ahead of the front then come crashing down behind it this evening and overnight. Readings by Friday morning will drop toward the 40 degree mark in a few spots… especially in the north. Afternoon highs will only make it into the 60s under a partly to mostly sunny sky.
Check out the forecast lows from the GFS…
Well… some upper 30s certainly wouldn’t be welcome around here at any point in May… let alone Memorial Day Weekend. I guess we will see if we gt that cold.
The cooler air is going to hang on a little deeper into the big weekend…
We will finally see temps back to normal by Memorial Day and that will come with the chance for some scattered showers and storms…
It doesn’t look like a washout by any means. A blast of 80s returns for the rest of next week.
Have a great Thursday and take care.
Thanks again MotherNature for the impeccable timing of your continued spring ridiculousness!!! Just don’t understand how cold air continues to filter down from Canada at this late stage of the game. You had all winter to get your cold on and now you decide to do your thing. Go away!!! PS……….. do we really need rain daily as well??
We have had shots of cool air in April and May but overall these months will go down in the books as near normal temps and wetter than normal. So far May is running 2.3 degrees above normal. And these types of cool outbreaks are not unusal. Last year was the warmest spring on record, so I think that might be making us think it has been cooler than it actually has. And this won’t be record break cold either. Here are the cold records for Friday to Monday
Friday May 25: Record Cold Max 50 (1979). Record Cold Min 36 (1925)
Sat May 26: Record Cold Max 52 (1901). Record Cold Min 38 (1925)
Sun May 27: Record Cold Max 56 (1901). Record Cold Min 35 (1961)
Mon May 28: Record Cold Max 56 (1893). Record Cold Min 39 (1907)
Sounds great! Cant wait for the crisp dry air to move in today!
From Wikipedia: A cold front entered the Indianapolis area the evening before the Indy 500 on May 24, 1992, bringing misty rain and cold temperatures. Race morning dawned at 50°F, with a windchill of 36. The cold weather made for precarious conditions for the drivers, as it would be increasingly difficult to warm up the slick tires.
As the field entered the backstretch on the second parade lap, polesitter Roberto Guerrero gunned his machine to warm up the tires, but the back end whipped around, and the car spun into the inside wall. The suspension was damaged enough that he could not continue, and he was out of the race before the green flag. Moments later, Philippe Gache lost control on cold tires, and spun lazily into the apron of turn 4. The incidents delayed the start by five minutes.
Pouring the rain right now in Knox co. Makes it 13 out of 23 days in May that it has rained. Need some dry sunny days.
All about location not a drop here closer to the whitley county line
