Significant Severe Weather Event Possible

Good evening, everyone. It’s another warm evening across Kentucky as we continue to focus on the potential for significant severe weather for much of Kentucky into the weekend. The greatest threat continues to come late Friday night through Saturday evening.

A Wind Advisory is already out for much of the region Friday through Saturday evening…

The rest of the state will likely be included in that later tonight or early Friday. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of this upgraded to a High Wind Warning.

In terms of the overall forecast, nothing has really changed…

FRIDAY NIGHT

  • Lines of strong to severe storms rumble into western Kentucky late Friday evening through the wee hours of Saturday.
  • That line of storms then pushes eastward into central Kentucky by sunup Saturday
  • The greatest threat for severe storms is across western and parts of central Kentucky.
  • Damaging winds and a few tornadoes are possible in the west.
  • With or without storms, wind gusts of 50mph or greater will be higher.

SATURDAY

  • Our cold front moves into western Kentucky and slows down.
  • Low pressure develops along this to our southwest and rides northeastward along it.
  • This brings the potential for rounds of strong to severe storms to central and eastern Kentucky especially.
  • Damaging winds are the main player with these storms but I can’t rule out isolated tornadoes.
  • With or without storms, winds may gust to 50mph or greater at times.
  • Significant wind damage is possible Saturday afternoon and evening.
  • These storms may also be big rainmakers in streaks. Local flash flooding is a good bet.

The Storm Prediction Center continues with a Moderate Risk for severe storms across western Kentucky. The prime time for this is late Friday evening into the wee hours of Saturday morning…

This is a part of the state where the tornado risk is pretty elevated as the storms move in. That threat then lowers substantially as storms move east early Saturday morning…

A significant threat for damaging winds is with areas along and west of Interstate 65…

The initial line of severe storms may have some monster hail across far western Kentucky…

The Storm Prediction Center currently has the Slight Risk for much of Kentucky for Saturday with the Enhanced Risk across far south-central parts of the state…

Here’s the early call on the overall probabilities of severe weather from the SPC…

I suspect the Enhanced Risk gets pushed a bit farther north with future updates tonight and Friday.

Repeat showers and storms Saturday into Saturday evening may cause local flash flooding issues. Here’s a look at the area I’m highlighting for the greatest potential…

I leave you with your Kentucky Radars to track any isolated shower or storm that’s out there…

Enjoy the evening and take care.
