Good Sunday, gang. Our weather pattern continue to evolve toward one that will look and feel much more like it should for the second half of August. An increase in temps and humidity levels will lead to a daily threat for showers and storms over the next week.
Temps today will range from the upper 70s to low 80s across the entire region as the muggy factor comes up. Showers and storms will blossom during the afternoon and evening hours and these will have the potential to put down a lot of water in a short amount of time. Here’s regional radar…
The week ahead setup will feature warm and muggy air with scattered storms going up each and every afternoon. While this is a very warm period, the models keep the core of the heat well to our west…
I still like my forecast for a run at 90 degrees before the month is over.
Let’s take a look a little deeper into the month. The 12z run of the GFS from Saturday had some interesting analog years for the last of this month. The computers look for years during this general time frame that featured a similar pattern as the one being forecast. You can see these years, months and dates on the bottom right of this map…
1967 is on there 3 different times and that year featured 30s in September. So did 1966 and 1993. If you are a fan of cold and snow, 1976, 1993 and 2009 jump out at you. That certainly does not mean the rest of the year will play out exactly how those did, but it’s interesting to see a similar pattern being forecast as we get closet to early fall.
Make it a great Sunday and take care.
Thanks, Chris. Nice to see a little August showing up in August. Been reading your posts all week, but so much going on no time to comment. We did get a shower last night about 11:30 but it was just a steady shower, nothing heavy. Thanks for all you do. Have a great Sunday, everyone.
The last rain east Frankfort has seen was August 12 th, so if we miss the rain today a pretty good little dry spell seems to be setting up around these parts!
My flowers are still going strong so I’d like to make it the entire summer without watering a single time. That would be a record for my yard chock-full of flowers!
Don’t knock it. We had seven inches of rain in Lawrenceburg in a one week period this month. Would love to see nary a drop fall till Labor Day weekend has past 🙂 Oops–it is raining outside!
76 and 93 rocked, but 09 was all drive-by small snows. Bunches of them.
I know one thing tails on squirrel are not bushy at all so guess we will have a mild winter that’s the saying anyways…
My brother n law has squirrels at his house with no tails just stubs.. funny!
I remember the winter of 76′ and 93′. Them summers were very similar to this years and the winter of 76 was harsh but 93′ was a warm winter with little snow until the blizzard in March93′. I lived in Ohio in the winter of 09′ and it was a very harsh and cold winter up there. I kinda miss the winters of Ohio but also know that SE KY has had much worse than Ohio too. ALl I want is a white winter with cold so we can finally get out of the dome and start the new chapter. This chapter is getting really old…..FAST!
Yes, the KeavyMan is alive……..LOL
We had two six inch snowfalls in West/Central KY in February of 1993. And then missed on in March of 1993. Guess location is everything!
