Good Sunday, folks. As we put the wraps on a gorgeous weather weekend, we continue to focus on a major shot of winter weather rolling into town in less than 48 hours. An arctic front will bring the potential of the first light accumulating snowfall of the season to our region.

We are seeing the models settle in on a scenario of where the arctic front arrives Monday night with most of the precipitation falling behind the actual front. That’s where the cold air will be located and that air is VERY cold for this time of year. Here’s the setup by Tuesday morning…

Special

While most of the precipitation will be behind the front… a narrow ribbon of rain showers will be just ahead of the boundary. Temps will drop 15 degrees or so in an hour or two as the front moves through and that will put most areas below freezing by the Tuesday morning commute. This MAY cause a few issues with travel.

Here’s a quick outline…

Special GraphicThe NAM continues to spit out the highest snowfall numbers…

NAM SnowThe latest GFS has turned snowier than its earlier runs and isn’t too far off what the NAM is showing. Keep in mind… it’s early November and the ground isn’t terribly cold and that means the flakes will have to overcome that. Regardless.. I think many areas have a good shot at turning white for a while.

After the main snow band ends… watch for some snow showers or flurries to fly into Tuesday evening. Lows by Wednesday morning will hit the upper teens to low 20s. Wednesday will keep the 30s for highs.

Looking farther down the road… I continue to see a pattern that is likely to give us more cold and snow chances before Thanksgiving. The models are already latching on to the next deep trough digging in by late next weekend into early the following week…

Euro 2I will give you guys another update later today and may even put together a best chance for snowfall map. It’s too early in the season for a first call… or is it?

Have a great Sunday and take care.
