Good evening, all. A FLOOD WATCH has been issued for parts of western and northern Kentucky from late Friday through Sunday morning. Here’s a look…
That will likely be expanded a few counties to the east as the latest data shows more of an eastward swing with the heaviest rainfall. Here’s what I’m expecting…
Gusty winds will continue to be a problem through Sunday. That’s when temps begin to CRASH. We start in the 60s and end in the 30s.
We could see some snow showers and flurries around for Monday into Christmas Eve day. I’m still watching to see if we get another wave of low pressure to develop to our east by Monday. It’s still a possibility.
More and more models are picking up on the day after Christmas system…
Another system will follow that up for next weekend and that one may grow into something much bigger.
COLD is coming and it is likely to come on in a big, big way as we go forward into January. Extreme is a word that may be used to describe the winter pattern ahead.
Take care.
great pattern only if it snows
we should getting something good with all those chances lining up.
Just saw a national news story about all the Ice on Lake Michigan, Ice breakers are already trying to break up the Ice 3 weeks earlier than normal!
Winter has started harsh in a lot of the northern US! The way Chris is talking its only just getting started!
Lets get this rain out of here and then bring on the snow!
I agree, but for more west- northern areas of KY. Seems we have sen the samples already for the snow and even this heavy rain pattern. I expect this to be the template for winter, with the east mountains getting some action as well. We shall see.
Didn’t they say brutal cold the week of Christmas about 10 days ago? And its staying above freezing every day for highs….these models are terrible.
Yes, but also said they weren’t sold on the idea! There’s a big difference there!
The ole weather channel just said January will be above normal for the whole country???
Sounds like them
They are not also known as The Warming Channel for nothing 😉 Spout out now about warmth and then “unexpected” when not.
For snow though, I think central Kentucky might see three years in a row of wimpy snow. We could see a few couple inch events, but seems about it. Bold? Stupid? Presumptuous? Foolish? Yep, probably, but the closer to the river and the center, the less likely snow this year. In my odd opinion, the pattern is already defined by what we have seen so far.
I have said this same thing for the past few years about this time. Trend is the safe bet, until it is actually busted to start a new one.
CB vs TWC!
I like the chance Chris has against this bunch, it can be very cold for two weeks across 90 percent of the country, but they find the warmer outlook Everytime in their future outlooks, instead of going with a pattern that has set in!
Thanks, Chris, for all you do. I lead a community group and make decisions whether to meet or not depending on weather. I appreciate this site and your input more than you know! You’re a major part in keeping people safe.
Thank goodness thats only rain, if that upcoming precipitation was in the form of snow we would be into trouble. Bring on the weekend warm weather. Thanks chris for your dedication, good bless
