Good Friday everyone and welcome to the start of the Labor Day Holiday Weekend. This is a big weekend for outdoor activities and it is shaping up to be nothing short of a winner in that department as a shot of cool/chilly air moves in. The timing on the shot of fall could not be better! We will take a look at that and have some tracking maps for Hurricane Earl.
A cold front will be cross the state from west to east today. This front does not have a ton of moisture to work with… but the pure dynamics of the front will touch off a line of showers and thunderstorms that rolls quickly eastward. This line should not put down a whole lot of rain… but we will take what we can get. The rains should be out of the area in time for kickoff of most high school football games this evening.
Track the action here…
This will be a fairly windy front as it blows through here. High temps today will range from the 70s for much of central and western parts of the state to low 80s across the east. Those low 80s will generally be in the late morning hours before the clouds and storms move through.
Temps this evening for High School Football will be great for the second Friday in a row. Readings will fall into the 60s for second half action.
The real deal cool/chilly air will move in for Saturday and Sunday. We will start out our weekend with readings near 50 Saturday morning. Saturday’s highs are going to struggle to get much past 70 across the eastern half of the state… especially if we get some clouds to develop and that is a possibility. Winds will be rather gusty and this will add a slight chill to the air… especially if you are in a shaded area. The big Kentucky-louisville game out at the big slice will be played with temps in the 70-75 degree range. That will feel great considering how hot it can be this time of year… as we found out this week.
Sunday morning will start very chilly with readings down into the 40s for most areas. As a matter of fact… it is possible we approach record levels for some cities! Sunny skies will be with us once again during the day and that will boost temps into the low and mid 70s for highs for much of the area. That will be another WOW weather day. ![]()
Labor Day will see warmer temps fighting back in as readings head toward the lower 80s… but it still should be a comfy day overall with more sunshine.
Temps will head back into the mid and upper 80s for much of the middle and end of next week. It is by the end of the week when we should see our next threat for any rainfall.
Hurricane Earl continues to brush parts of the Mid Atlantic states as it rolls northward just off the east coast of the United Sates. Earl is likely to bring the wildest weather to parts of the New England coast tonight. It is very unlikely that it will make landfall along the east coast… but it will get close enough to cause some big problems.
Here are some tracking maps for Earl…

What happened to the rain Chris?? Woodford is terribly dry as I’m sure most other counties are.
Sigh. The rain I’d been excited about all week isn’t going to happen. Be it summer or winter, there’s a dome over central KY.
This is so saddening. I too was excited for even a quick round of rain. It looks like we now might get some light showers? Anyway, this fall was looking like it would be a beautiful one but tree’s are already losing their leaves. The tree’s along the back of a field behind my house are starting to yellow like it’s fall.
If we get to next Thursday with no or little rain it will have been 22 days without significant moisture here at my house.
well it literally poured the rain just 3 miles away from my back yard, all i got was sprinkles..:( it sure is dry!
But hey! It will be nice this weekend……So to most I guess that’s all that matters.
True. But the pastures on my farm are in bad shape, so for me, I’d have rather had the rain.
I was being sarcastic when I said that :)………I’d rather have rain too….Even in the wettest years, there’s always more sunny days than cloudy days.
same here bub it poured in rockholds but barely a sprinkles here
well it official, NO WINTER THIS YEAR!! …. LOL…LOL…. accuweather says WARMER AND DRIER…so sun bathing for CHristmas this yr… NOT!!!…

COLD NIGHT ON THE WAY!!!…. CHECK OUT MY LOW TEMP. forecasted by NWS IN JKL for Sunday morning!!!!….WOW!!!
Saturday Night: Patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, clear, with a low around 40. Calm wind.
40* !!!! wow…I’ll have to turn the heat on!!…LOL..
Awful quick to judge others, no?
Jeff
I said “most”…….Not all
I know we need rain, but honestly, I am going to enjoy every minute of this beautiful weekend!!!! Have family and friends coming for a cookout and lots of outside activities. We can’t change what we get, so we might as well enjoy what we have been blessed with.
Ohh, I wouldn’t say that, Tim…not just YET??! 😉
I’m thinking this winter will be a pleasant surprise to ALL of us here in KY.?! 🙂 I am just going by PAST “Summer Vs. Winter”(late 70’s) Let’s keep HOPING?! 🙂
I got a whole 0.03″ of rain. Haha. I am already enjoying this weather! I love wind so that has been nice. Got the windows in the house up, very nice!
When I saw that I didn’t see it as Kentucky in the warmer and drier section. We are in the battle zone so I assume cold/warm and average rain/snow.
