Flooding Rains Continue

Good evening, everyone. Your friendly weatherdude is a busy bee with all the torrential rain and flooding across the region, so this is a quick update.

Flooding issues will continue into the overnight into many areas, even as the rains slow down some. River flooding will also be possible over the next few days as all this water has to go somewhere.

Northern Kentucky continues to be under a Winter Weather Advisory tonight and early Tuesday as a wintry mix and some snow returns. This will slowly work toward the south and southeast across central and eastern Kentucky on Tuesday. Some light accumulations will be possible then.

Here are your tracking tools…

Flood Threat Increases

Good afternoon, everyone. Heavy rain continues to push across Kentucky, bringing the potential for flooding through tonight. That’s when colder air moves in, bringing a period of winter weather back into the region as our storm system moves away.

Torrential rains continue to pound much of the region and this is leading to an elevated threat for flooding and flash flooding. Short range models are cranking out an additional 3″+ of rain today…

Some thunderstorms are also getting into the mix across the south, so that will up the ante on flash flooding.

Temps continue to be pretty awesome with much of the area in the 30s, but some low 60s showing up across the southeast.

As our low slides off to the east later today, we will see wraparound snow and a light mix later tonight into Tuesday. This could lead to a few morning travel issues.

Here’s how the NAM sees the switch…

Snow accumulations will be rather light…

A Flood Threat Then More Winter

Good Monday, everyone. Our Ohio Valley winter storm continues to behave pretty well for most areas, including right here in Kentucky. As we roll through the day, our focus is on the potential for flooding rains before some wraparound winter moves back in late tonight and Tuesday.

Many areas of northern Kentucky picked up a gorgeous snowfall last night, but that turns a slushy today as temps spike just above freezing, making for mainly rain. Speaking of rain, heavy amounts of rain are likely across much of Kentucky through tonight. Flooding and flash flooding will be a good possibility.

The models vary on where to put the heaviest amounts, but a general 1″-3″ rainfall is likely, with locally higher amounts. Here’s the NAM…

Canadian

All of this precip is happening as a couple of low pressures work across the region through Tuesday. The temp gradient we are working with today is amazing. Check out how close the 60s and 30s get to one another this afternoon and evening before the cold wins out…

That’s crazy!

With that temp gradient, lots of precipitation can be expected. Watch how the snow line collapses back south into Kentucky overnight and into Tuesday.

Here’s the additional snowfall through Tuesday from the NAM…

The Canadian is similar…

Obviously, the stuff across much of Kentucky comes late tonight and early Tuesday. That air behind that gets even colder with many areas in the 20s for Wednesday…

I will have your normal updates later today. Until then, here are your morning weather trackers…
