Good evening, everyone. Your friendly weatherdude is a busy bee with all the torrential rain and flooding across the region, so this is a quick update.
Flooding issues will continue into the overnight into many areas, even as the rains slow down some. River flooding will also be possible over the next few days as all this water has to go somewhere.
Northern Kentucky continues to be under a Winter Weather Advisory tonight and early Tuesday as a wintry mix and some snow returns. This will slowly work toward the south and southeast across central and eastern Kentucky on Tuesday. Some light accumulations will be possible then.
Here are your tracking tools…

He is the reason for the season
Thankfully, we do have time. Next few weeks look crappy, but maybe we get more, better accumulation of snow in January and/or February. Even as great as 2014-2015 season was, we really didn’t get any more snow than we have seen this season-to-date until late January with most of heavy snow in February and early March. We are overdo and just have to suffer a while longer.
Things look really bleak for Christmas snow. My predicted high temp for next Monday is 60. That will make 10 years of no White Christmas. Maybe the longest stretch in my lifetime. On another note, the rain has been pouring now for 10 hours. I am over 2.5 inches. Some areas nearby are starting to flood.
The big winners snow wise with this “winter storm” were Indianapolis that had about 6.5″ inches (and probably will add a little more tonight) and parts of south-central Illinois that had up to 7 inches. Around 3-6 inches fell around the St. Louis area. All things considered, this was a very tame “snowstorm” for most. The heavy rain and severe storms / tornadoes in the south are the overwhelming significant aspects of this event.
The extended looks horrendous, at least through Christmas week. Well above normal temps / no snow chances. Blah. Odds are very good Kentucky will have above normal temperatures on average for December and above normal precipitation (but below normal snowfall), although it should be noted that today’s rainfall only brought Louisville up to normal precipitation for the month (yes, central and eastern parts of the state are much wetter). Unless late month pulls out a coup cold and snow wise, this December will just be yet another in the long string of snowless December’s in the OV as of late.
As i’ve said before i don’t see any change in the snowless pattern even into Janurary, At least the beginning, It will be warm and wet through early Jan, Keep the buckets handy. Looks like Christmas will be dry and very warm…. Merry Christmas all!
