Good afternoon, everyone. Heavy rain continues to push across Kentucky, bringing the potential for flooding through tonight. That’s when colder air moves in, bringing a period of winter weather back into the region as our storm system moves away.
Torrential rains continue to pound much of the region and this is leading to an elevated threat for flooding and flash flooding. Short range models are cranking out an additional 3″+ of rain today…
Some thunderstorms are also getting into the mix across the south, so that will up the ante on flash flooding.
Temps continue to be pretty awesome with much of the area in the 30s, but some low 60s showing up across the southeast.
As our low slides off to the east later today, we will see wraparound snow and a light mix later tonight into Tuesday. This could lead to a few morning travel issues.
Here’s how the NAM sees the switch…
Snow accumulations will be rather light…

I will have updates later today. I leave you with your afternoon tracking toys…

Have a good one and take care.
I’m dreaming of a MUDDY Christmas!!!
Everyone together now! You know the words!!
Just like the ones we always get.
At least far SE KY is going to catch a break for about 6 hours or so. Tonight will be interesting as most will had an inch or so this morning and will likely get an inch or two tonight, but at least a short break helps with runoff a little.
I’ve had 1.25 inches if winter weather in my backyard so far.
Despite the inconsistent or erroneous data from Black Mt’s Mesonet site in Harlan county, which is now over 70″ if you go by the lesser amount, their total is still higher than Paducah’s, giving them a recent edge down the home stretch. Nevertheless, Paducah is already in the top 3 wettest years on record.
Bardstown proper being SLAMMED right now with heavy rain. Heard distant thunder awhile ago, but right now can’t even hardly see my neighbor’s house, it’s coming down so HARD! Take care, everyone!
We are finally being slammed with heavy rain here at the Sandy-Y.
I would have thought you would have already had more than us here, Schroeder? Looked like it was really coming down there in G-burg/C-Ville(my old stompin’ grounds!)earlier this morning before we got it. We’ve had thunder and one big lightning bolt since I last posted….wish it was accompanied by SNOW, but ya can’t have it all! π
Almost a week out from Christmas and there isn’t even a morsel of talk about a week away system this year? What’s up with that? It’s tradition.
Cause I jinxed us π
My “After the previous two almost no snow winters, we had nowhere to go but up”, may have do us in. Seems that could have been a lofty presumption. Trifecta coming?
Shame on you Bubba
The extended through Christmas Day is for mild and dry as it stands now. I predicting a Blizzard with 25 foot drifts. LOL
Good if itβs not going to snow I would prefer the dry & mild weather.
I’ll take dry. My yard is a swamp. You couldn’t sneak up on anyone that’s for sure. Every step is a slosh and has been for a few days.
Last week, southeast KY got the snow. This week, to the north. Maybe Rodger’s backyard will get some – some day. π Rodger in Dodger
And it was a whopper ti nearly a 1/4 inch of snow.
Maybe the climate control center can raise the freezing point of water to 55 degrees. Then it would snow buckets.
The snow flurries predicted for tomorrow if you blink you might miss the big attraction. LOL
Dang, the most powerful lightening bolt we’ve experienced just hit near our house. The bang shook the house and rumbled for about ten seconds. Seemed more like a small meteor than a bolt.
Yep-we had probably the same one here in Bardstown-the rain had slowed so I sent the dogs out for a fast pee, but the bolt came, so they tore the door down….lol! My Doxie/JRT came in with all his teeth showing/growling, and immediately went into the LR and hiked on the gifts under the tree……HIS present! Hahaha!!!!! π
I bet it was the one I saw from around MM84 on 75 NB. I live the S Keeneland area.
Looks like Jimbo about to get creamed with a good 2 to 4 inch + rainfall this evening. WOW, big flash flood threat coming your way!
We received a whole three-quarters of an inch of snow late Sunday night/early Monday morning here in the SW suburbs of Chicago. The heavy snow was well south of us in downstate IL.
It is cold though, with temps only in the 20s. The little bit of snow we got should stick around for a few days until the big warm-up later this week and into the weekend.
65 here in my far SE KY location.
Yay. Getting dry-slotted
