Good evening, everyone. Light snow accumulations continue to cause BIG issues on the roads The forecast is playing out like a charm with a coating to 1″ of snow for many. Some locally higher amounts may show up in the east as snow showers continue tonight.
Even with just a light accumulation, most roads are snow and ice covered across central and eastern Kentucky. This has turned into a VERY HIGH IMPACT travel event. I’m going to be as blunt as I can be here: If the National Weather Service cannot issue a Winter Weather Advisory for such a high impact event, then they should just go ahead and scrap it. There is zero excuse for them not to, even reactively, issue a Winter Weather Advisory.
Regardless of me hitting a forecast or missing a forecast, EVERYTHING I do on this blog and on TV is to keep you guys safe and as informed as I possibly can. I can only hope that’s the mantra of every other meteorologist out there.
I really am restraining myself from an epic rant, right now, so I will just wrap this up with your tracking toys…

Thanks Chris for all your hard work and dedication. I turn to this blog for all weather related situations! You are the only one I trust to tell it like it is.
Thanks Chris we finally got some snow in Pikeville.
I completely agree with you Chris
Amen! Date night was cancelled for tonight for me and my boyfriend because neither of us could get to eachother because of the dang roadways!! A winter weather advisory would have helped us be more prepared and maybe helped the city of lex have more prep for the roadways! Anyone who has been in love knows that love is a drug and withdrawl is no fun!! Lol. Stay safe everyone ❤
Richmond got more snow on the ground today than all last winter. An inch with no need to round up.
BTW, why did they wait until after the event was about done to treat the roads?

I live in Tennessee but I follow your blog morning and evening and your the best!! You are right on 95% of the time! Better than most.
Eastern Jefferson County in Louisville the convective snow squalls got so bad that people were literally stuck on the Gene Snyder Highway. It was a complete flash freeze if you got stuck under a heavy snow squall. Also the snow squalls had quite a bit of wind, mini blizzard very cool yet extremely dangerous.
If the NWS chooses not to issue a WWA the very least the NWS should of done besides issue a special weather statement is to at the very least issue a Travelers Advisory, NWS dropped the ball. NWS for whatever reason turn a blatant blind eye on this particular weather event. I’m use to the SPC doing dumb things. However the NWS is usually better than this. NWS Twitter page was loaded with pics and comments and yet did nothing!
Snow showers here come and left. Nothing here on y
the roads, yards, or my deck. A very light dusting on the car.
It just took me 6 hours to get from Northern Kentucky back to London. Roads were an absolute mess. The roads were not pretreated and only saw very few salt trucks later on. I counted 32 cars that had slid off the road. To the drivers credit, everyone was going real slow but it was just a solid sheet of ice and black ice.
I never trust the National Weather Service. For now on I am only going to watch Chris Bailey on Hulu. Thanks Chris for keeping us safe. You are a God send.
