Good Sunday, everyone. Roads are still going to be a mess through early today, so please slow down and take it easy if traveling. Now it’s time to focus on the week ahead and additional light snow chances on the way to the bluegrass state.
For the weather out there today, some early morning snow showers and flurries will still be flying across eastern Kentucky…
Today is a VERY windy day, keeping wind chill numbers much lower than what your thermometer will be showing. A mix of sun and clouds will also be noted, and I can’t rule out a few flakes in the northeast.
Monday is a very windy day as clouds increase ahead of our next clipper. This dives in here Monday night and Tuesday, bringing our next chance for light accumulations of snow…
Much colder air presses in through the day, with temps dropping through the 20s. Roads could again slicken up.
Two more clipper systems then impact our weather from Wednesday through Friday. The GFS shows a nice little system on Wednesday, followed by the next one Thursday and Friday..
The Canadian Model tries to get just a little deeper with that late week clipper…
We will need to watch and see if one of those clippers can dig in much deeper than the models currently suggest. Regardless, snow chances are with us from Monday night through Friday. Our first snow days of the season may show up at some point during this time.
The pattern tries to relax some next weekend, but the Ensembles go right back into developing another huge trough engulfing the eastern part of the country early next week…
Check out Christmas weekend…
The southern branch of the jet stream may start to come to life around the same time. Hmm
I will have the usual updates later today, so check back.
Have a sensational Sunday and take care.
This is the latest tweet sent out ftom NWS Louisville, giving us only a 20 percent chance of lt. snow/flurries this upcoming week: This week will be chilly and unsettled, but with only very light, widely scattered precipitation. #lmkwx #kywx #inwx
Thanks Chris, All we received in my county in central Kentucky was a dusting of snow yesterday. No road issues. The Christmas weekend looks to be interesting, if the upswing on the east side of the trough comes through the Tennessee valley. I might note that it is unusually quite in the central and northern plains. Could this be caused by the very strong high pressure in the west ?
For my area more salt than snow.
Rodger is prepared for more disappointment. Wasted cold is sad! Rodger in Dodger
I have that feeling that we will see a major snow event sometime this month. Now, I know that just feeling that doesn’t bold well on this blog, but I am mentioning it anyway.
If it helps lessen the flea and mosquito impact next spring and summer, it is not wasted.
This
My hometown – Brevard NC got a friggin foot of snow!
I’m happy for the snow lovers there –
That being said – since moving here in ’96, I’ve seen more snow than they have overall, even during our horrible snow years.
Mark, Iv’e been to Brevard, NC. many years ago, a nice place to grow up and live.
Remember guys were only in early December not late March. But I think we’re in a dry pattern that has been taken place since late summer. It’s seems there’s no strong moisture storms taken shape from the south to come our neck of woods. But things can change only time will tell. Have a good day
Am I the outlier here in hoping the mild temperatures of the weeks prior to last week return as soon a possible? Seems we all here love snow, but without the possibility of a “real” snowfall in the immediate forecast, the cold is totally wasted on the almost always underwhelming clipper potential.
Cold is not wasted as long as it controls the bugs next spring and summer.
I here you on the bugs. Believe it or not I am having problems with the Asian Beetle. The unwanted guess are hibernating in my house and I have develop an allergy from the secretions this pest leaves behind. Thank you USDA !!
Considering the most bug infested state that I have visited happens to be Wisconsin, I really do not believe the cold happens to kill off bugs and the actual science also says that it doesn’t. lol
With last weeks southern snow I believe one of these will track our way soon with a northern shift, snow fans get ready :}
Wow ..What an ice storm on the GFS..lol..Good thing it’s long range..Many would have no power for Christmas..
Please, don’t mention ice storm !!
