I will have updates as I can and will send out rapid fire twitter updates from @kentuckyweather. I will also have the latest breaking weather on WKYT-TV.
Take care.
According to the SPC, the western Watch box has higher probabilities for severe weather than the eastern Watch box, albeit a slightly higher probability.
You can really make out the front by examining the w-e orientation of precipitation on RADAR. If storms move fast enough, I wonder if some places could get hit more than once, like some places in the Midwest that had too much water?
CRAZY storm in Morehead. I’m used to seeing big gusts as a storm rolls in. This storm had high winds as storm departed, and blowing to the west.
Just had a 3 minute rain in east frankfort, now the sun is out, we need much more rain than that, hopefully more later?
Are there more storms coming after these are over ?
I just drove through Richmond and Berea, while they were under nice size dots of red on Defender and accumulated a total of about a dozen rain drops on the windshield. Are some of these cells supposed to just be active aloft?
And yet another storm fades in east frankfort, the drought is on!
Naa–until it gets like July of 2012 I wouldn’t use the word drought.
Got enough on the west side to wet the sidewalk.
I feel your pain Todd. Georgetown is in the same boat. Haven’t seen rain in two weeks. The “flooding rains” predicted have barely gotten the ground wet. Judging by the radar, I probably should go turn on the sprinklers.
I would, I love this blog but very lttle conversation is given to the fact that a early drought might be forming??
All this flood talk is crazy??
Todd, the radar I see, and the thunder I hear would suggest Frankfort has a good rain storm going on right now. I’m between the Tyrone and Frankfort pools on the Kentucky River (the dam there is near Jim’s seafood). Don’t see how Frankfort isn’t getting something right now.
Hope you are enjoying the rain if the fort. Watching it all slide south of my house. At least it is putting on a nice light show.

If there are a few things I have learned reading and watching Chris Bailey the past several years, one of them is that the word “drought” is not to be used lightly.
The tornado watch for most of southern Indiana is being canceled and it’s looking like we are in the clear here in Louisville. I just cannot buy or steal a drop of rain. Less than an inch of rain in the last 4 weeks. It’s starting to look very dry around my neighborhood.
Starting to crank up real good here on the Anderson/Woodford line. Severe thunderstorm warning issued. Finally seeing some nice rain. Not too worried about the thunderstorm.
Does Central KY now have a rain dome, too? These past two weeks of promised storms has delivered about 78 drops of rain for my part of Lexington.
Same here in western Scott co, very little rain
here in hikes point ( Louisville area). this storm was a bust. obviously I was not rooting for a tornado but I would love to see some rain.
A few sprinkles here on north side of Somerset. Abnormally dry to low end drought here .
Well, watching radar. Time for tornado watch to expire. Here in Mercer we have had a few sprinkles but not much else. I do not want a derecho or tornado but a good storm I enjoy. Overall so far, unless something fires here coming on radar to the West, not much of anything at all going on. So, is that it for the night?
Ok, a big time lightning storm is on it’s way to Lexington, I wouldn’t doubt a t-storm warning could be issued because it is strengthening a lot and I hear crazy lightning in the distance. I will finally get the first real rain in 2 weeks! (Unless it magically disappears immediately after I type this comment)
WBKO in Bowling Green reporting a mile-wide wedge on the ground just south of Madisonville…wow.
That is huge.
I’m live streaming WBKO now. Areas near Madisonville was hit hard according to law enforcement and spotters.
Now this nasty stuff is going south of the state line; a Tornado Warning currently in effect near Clarksville TN.
Bowling Green had a Tornado Warning earlier this evening. My wife’s parents were in their basement for a while.
“Be careful what you wish for” applies right now. It has been storming heavy rain for about an hour straight!!! Good thing I don’t live in a flash flood prone area but my in my part of southern Lexington, it is terrible for those people. The training of storms have caused this and I see no stop yet! The wind has been no problem with this storm, until now. omg as I am typing right now, the wind is fierce and rain has gotten ever harder with even more lightning!
My county is under a flash flood warning. And we had a tornado warning as well. Hope everyone was safe and there was no damage. Was outside listening in the dark while it lightning off in the distance at a steady constant rate.
Now, not complaining about missing the severe but quite honestly I hope some rain hits my place. None at all here. I literally did not sprinkle from this. Earlier today it sprinkled 2 times but not enough to even dampen the deck. Hearing some thunder so I hope the rain is coming. Looking at the radar my area is going to get little though. Complete opposite from winter were we had a bunch of snow and still had it on the ground when other parts of the county had already all melted off.
Huge miss for Somerset tonight in terms if rain. Hope the 50-60% chance Sunday comes true. 90% chance didn’t deliver tonight. Glad nothing severe here, don’t wish that on anyone, but we need some rain.
Just got power back, it has been storming BADLY here in Southeast Lexington for a while that it knocked power out and been like that for two hours.
And didn’t I hear about a wedge tornado somewhere in KY?
Perryville KY only saw some sprinkles. Danville got quite a bit of rain but not the western part of the county.
