Good Sunday everyone. I think it is safe to say the severe weather outbreak across Kentucky was more bark than bite. The same cannot be said for areas just to our south where several killer tornadoes touched down. Our saving grace around here was the showers that worked through early in the day that kept the atmosphere from really going crazy across the state. Given what this storm produced across the south… we certainly cannot complain.
We still had many reports of severe weather across the region. From golf ball sized hail to some structural damage to a few homes… the storms didn’t totally leave us unscathed.
Today is going to be an interesting day. The low pressure is going to continue to spin across the Hoosier state today. We are likely to start the day with some sun and VERY gusty winds as temps warm into the 70s. Spiralling bands of showers and thunderstorms should develop and sweep in here by the afternoon and early evening hours. Can we get just enough instability for a few strong storms to go up? I think that is certainly possible with high winds and small hail being the main threats. You can see what I am talking about here with the NAM future radar for this evening…
You will be able to track the showers and storms here…
Even outside of the gusty showers and storms… winds today may approach 40mph at times. Temps will fall rapidly once the rains move in as much colder air presses in here.
That will set us up for some UGLY weather for Monday and Tuesday. Daytime highs will struggle into the lower 50s!! Windy conditions will make it feel even cooler than that. Throw in some showers both days and it will not look very pretty.
Green thumbs… we have a shot at some patchy frost and 30s by Wednesday morning.
A rapid warm up will take place Thursday as winds become southwesterly. Highs will soar back into the 70s under mostly sunny skies.
That will take us toward Derby Weekend and what should be a warm one. That is the good news. The bad news is that we may be setting the stage for another severe weather threat with rounds of showers and thunderstorms. That is something to keep an eye on in the coming days.
Have a great Sunday and take care.
Once again, way overblown by the SPC. The weather site that cried wolf is the loser yet again.
pretty uneventful at my house yesterday and overnight thank God. The wind maxed out around 20-25 mpg and only got .64 of rain in last 24 hrs. There was plenty of places that did have severe weather though just thankful none of that happened around here.
Possibly the SPC did overblow it, BUT be very thankful that clouds and rain preceded that line that went through yesterday afternoon/ evening. If not for that blessing of rain we reallly needed, there is no telling how WILD/BAD it might have gotten!
We had a nice, steady rain yesterday. Only heard thunder a couple of times and the wind wasn’t much. It’s more breezy this morning.
Perhaps they did…but I am very happy that their forecast went bust! All we had was a period of steady rain from about 5 – 8 PM then a little more rain about 11 PM….but not as much as a clap of thunder.
Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats living together! Mass Hysteria…
Overblown? Really? If I recall there were multiple Tornado Warnings across southern part of the state and a ton of T-storm warning. Had we gotten just a bit of sunshine then it could have been a very bad situation. So no, they did a great job given the setup and how close we were to a horrific day.
i dont really classify golf ball size hail and possible winds of 90mph with structural damage more bark than bite.
