Good Wednesday to one and all. The first week of April has been on the toasty side to say the least with Tuesday bringing yet another day of record high temps across the region. The record heat is about to come to a booming end over the next 24 hours as a strong cold front blows across the state from the west. This will lead to the potential for more strong or severe storms and a big temp plunge that will take us from summer to early March weather.

The cold front is racing across the Mississippi River valley today with all kinds of severe weather likely breaking out along this front. It will slowly work eastward into western Kentucky late this afternoon into the evening then across the rest of the region overnight into very early Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms will be just along and ahead of the front. Here is what the NAM simulated radar is showing…

The threat for strong and severe thunderstorms is something we will monitor closely later today and tonight. Here is an all inclusive map from the Storm Prediction Center…

Damaging winds would be the main threat along this line of storms. You can track those here…

The rest of the forecast looks like this…

– Winds will howl behind the front later tonight into Thursday as temps drop big time. Readings may start out around 60 Thursday morning before dropping into the upper 40s and low 50s.

– Showers will become more scattered by Thursday afternoon.

–  Friday will be another windy and chilly day. Lows will be in the 30s and highs only lower 50s.

– A frosty start is likely to the day Saturday as lows may dip to freezing or below in some areas.

– Much warmer air will then work in here through the rest of the weekend. Highs Saturday will reach the mid and upper 60s before surging into the 70s for Sunday.

– Another warm period is looking likely for early next week.

I will keep track of the possible severe weather and have updates as needed. Have a great day and take care.
