Good evening, gang. I threw out some analog years from the models in an earlier post. 1976 was well represented as the year with the closest match to the upcoming few weeks. That’s not a coincidence considering this past October had the second highest Eurasia snow cover on record. The only year ahead of it? Yep… 1976…
That’s pretty impressive to see and 1976 has to be considered one of the main analogs heading into the upcoming winter.
Similar to 1976, some big shots of cold are on the way this month. The next blast arrives late Thursday into Friday with another later Saturday into Sunday.
The big daddy is on the way for the middle and end of next week…
NWS in Jackson forecasting fairly seasonal readings into mid next week. Guess they’re not buying into the Roscoe P Cold Train
Don’t you just hate it when you watch a met and they always seem kind of blah blah blah and unexcited about the weather no matter how extreme and event may be coming up. I remember growing up watching TWC and some of TWC mets and some local mets were like that. I just couldn’t stand watching their forecasts because they didn’t seem to care at all…
Chris just saw your tweet about the new temp sensor!!!!!!!!!! About time they replaced that….That has bugged me for the LONGEST time!! Like the other day, I think the mesonet for Fayette only reached 37, while the airport reached 41….riiigghhht!
I just now saw that.Long overdue.
Thanks Chris for all these maps and weather details and history.
I love seeing all these details for Ky.No where else do we get anything close to what is posted here.
I took advantage of the nice day to finish up some more outside stuff.Got rid of some leaves too.But I know that will have to be done at least one more time. Now getting ready for the rain.
I remember winter of 1976-77. For snow lovers like me,it sure sounds good.
Now if the NWS in Louisville would just move the official temperature reading out of the airport things would be right in the temperature world.
I like the way you substituted “big daddy” for “Polar Vortex”. Therefore, I propose to make “Big Daddy” the official term for polar air outbreaks!
