Good Thursday everyone. Snow showers and squalls have been working their way across the state overnight and this has caused some terrible travel troubles for many areas. The overnight snows put down anywhere from a coating to as much as 5 or 6 inches in a few spots across the southeast. This is the beginning of what should turn out to be a pretty snowy period for parts of the state… especially across the east.
Here is your regional radar to track the snows…
Let’s break down what I am expecting over the next several days…
– Snow showers and squalls will taper off for a bit this afternoon into the evening… especially the farther west you live.
– Little systems will be diving in across the area from Thursday night into the upcoming weekend. Each of these will result in an increase in snow showers and squalls.
– The strongest system should roll in here later Friday into Saturday with widespread snows breaking out. This will likely be an interesting feature to watch as it may roll in here from northeast to southwest.
– In between these systems… a lull in the snowfall will occur. During the afternoon hours… this means some melting is a good bet as the sun is getting higher and higher in the sky.
– Northwesterly winds will also contribute to the snowfall… especially across the east and the highest mountains.
– Snow showers will likely continue all the way into Sunday.
– Winds will be increasing and this will cause blowing and drifting for whatever snow you have outside your house.
– Keep in mind that the snowfall totals I am talking about are from the combination of the next 4 days. As mentioned… some melting will be taking place so your snowfall is going to be greater than your snow depth at any one time.
Here is what I am expecting…
Here are a few cams for you guys to check out to see how things are looking across the state…

Overall… our weather pattern continues to be MUCH colder than normal and that will continue through next week. The computer models are still showing the early week storm… but they have it passing by to our south and east. I am not giving up on this one yet as something is telling me this will come farther north.
I will have updates as needed today so keep checking back. Have a great day and take care.

Schools are closed Thursday in Fayette County.
Jackson County has a pretty good covering; roads are horrible, very slick in some spots; Someone answer a question — CB says snow all weekend but everything i look at even local says partly sunny/cloudy ??

roads are FINE if u are not STUPID DRIVER.
With two inches of snow since midnight, Lexington has reached 11.9 inches for February. Its now the sixth snowiest February on record!
getting some heavy snow squalls in knox co. right now, just over 1″ here in the bimble area and roads are snow covered and slick..
In Lawrenceburg, a powdery 1″ of snow…just enough to call off school. Hope all have a great day!!
CB going miss this forcast i hate to say as far as the big totals in the east.
now i have my 1/5 inches and that bout all i see and that all that is expected.
so i guess u could say it a 50-50 hit, there not going be no 6 inch totals over in far eastern ky. sorry but they just not going be by sunday.
About 2 in.of fine powderey snow here in SE Lex. Really surprised me we got enough to cancel school. Add another school day in June.

I was surprised to see about 2″ when I woke up this morning. I only expected a dusting. It’s the nice fluffy stuff.

this is for wednesday of next week. It has a MASSIVE ridge in the west. Look how far north the freezing line is. you can’t even see the end of it.
We have about 3 inches of snow in Clay County. I live in the Burning Springs area. The snow is still falling. So Chris what kind of setup are we in for next week?
3-4 inches here, A nice snow.
i am search me i currently go by brent jeremiah smith for my name, yea i am cool its just built in!
Lexington has now recorded 11.9 inches of snow in the month of February..good enough for the #6 snowiest february ever. Pretty impressive!
What would that mean for Kentucky? I’m weather map illiterate.
I can’t find my bunny!
I am with Rhonda, not really sure what I am looking at >> what does this map mean for Kentucky next week? rain or snow??
Snow is falling in Pikevile.Temp is 27 degrees. It’s really pretty.
Snowfall across Mercer and Boyle looked like a lot more than it actually was once measured. Majority of actual measurement was one inch or less with a few isolated slightly higher amounts.(First hand observation)
I believe the 540 line is the freezing line…looks like a wild ride….that much warm air, followed by massive cold air…March in KY!!!
I believe the 540 line is the “freezing” line…..
it doesn’t really mean anything, just that we are going to be locked in to cold again.
