Good Wednesday afternoon gang. Snow showers and squalls are moving across the area this afternoon and some of these are coming down at a good clip. This is happening as an arctic front swings eastward through the region. Temps are at or just above freezing ahead of this front resulting in some melting, but are dropping into the 20s as soon as the front moves through. This will create slick spots on area roads and that will especially be the case once the sun goes down.

Local accumulations of an inch or two will be likely from this afternoon into the evening hours. This is all part of what should be a rather prolonged snowy period for much of the state that will last into the weekend. You can track the snows here…

You can also track the falling temps…

Snow showers and squalls will continue on and off tonight into Thursday as a blizzard develops across the northeast. This system will actually back farther west for a few days and give us a good northwesterly wind flow coming off the Great Lakes. Combine that with weak disturbances diving into the region and you have the recipe for snow and it could pile up in some areas of the east. Here is my updated snow map…

That is for everything that falls between now and Saturday night. Winds will increase as well leading to blowing and drifting snows over the next few days.

I will have more updates later today so check back. Take care.
