Good Wednesday everyone and thanks for blogging with us. I have been fighting internet issues tonight so I will keep this post short and to the point. We have some snow coming our way over the next few days with the eastern area having the best shot at putting snow on the ground this week.

After some snow showers and flurries today… the main action gets started this evening into tonight as a strong upper level low crosses the region from the northwest. This will cause snow showers and periods of light snow to break out later this evening into Thursday. Accumulations area  good bet with this system and this will create slick travel.

A major blizzard is going to hit the northeastern states over the next several days and this will try to throw some moisture our way at times. That will combine with a strong northwesterly wind flow to produce snow showers and squalls on and off from Thursday into the start of the weekend. Again… the greatest concentration of snows will be in the east. Here is what the GFS is spitting out in terms of snowfall…

Here is an early call on what I am thinking…

I want to stress that this is only an early call and that is for everything that falls between now and Saturday night. We will have to see how far southwest the lake effect streams can set up. As you can see… eastern and southeastern Kentucky should see the most snow out of all this and I may be underdone in this area.

Winds will be very gusty as well. This means blowing and drifting snows will be likely for those areas that get the most snow out of this. Temps will continue to run well below normal.

A quick word about next week’s storm…

The longer and stronger this soon to be blizzard in the northeast hangs around, the better the chance that the storm early next week’s storm stays to our south. Just something to watch over the next few days.

I will have more updates later today so check back. Take care.
