Good Saturday everyone and thanks for dropping by the blog. We have a prolonged period of snows coming our way over the next several days that will lay down several inches of snow across most of the region. The Winter Storm Threat continues with a likely upgrade to Alert very soon.

This will be a prolonged winter storm as it comes in pieces. The first will be overrunning light snows that break out from west to east on Sunday. Our low pressure will increase as it works eastward along the Kentucky/Tennessee border and into Virginia Sunday night into Monday. This is when the heaviest snows should fall. Once the low passes by… northwesterly winds and another disturbance will create widespread snow showers and squalls from Monday night through Tuesday and maybe even Wednesday. All of this will combine to put down several inches of the white stuff for the entire area.

I am riding the GFS Ensembles train…

Given all that… here is my first call…

That is only the first call map and I will have several updates to that as I get a better handle on how everything looks to progress. As you can see… I am expecting a significant snow across the board with a band of very heavy snows setting up somewhere across the area. That could be a little farther north or south than what I have… but that’s where my mind is on it right now.

We have some very light snows and flurries out there today in some areas. This shouldn’t be a very big deal… but I can see a few ares getting in on a coating of snow. The best chance for that will be across the east. You can follow any flakes right here…

I will have updates as I can through the day. I am taking in a little thing called College Gameday and the Kentucky Tennessee game at Rupp today. I won’t leave you guys hanging though and will update things in between the two and will be tweeting updates as well. Make sure you sign up to follow me on twitter… @Kentuckyweather . These updates also appear in the upper right hand corner of the blog.

Have a great day and take care.
