Good Monday everyone and welcome to a new week. We are coming off one of the coldest periods ever in Summer around here as records were falling all over the place over the weekend. If you are wanting true summer… I just cannot find it folks.
Before we get into the look ahead… let us take a look back at the latest round of records from Sunday.
Jackson did another double dip by setting a record low of 54 and record low high temp of 70.
Louisville did the same with a record low of 56 degrees and a record low high of 73.
Frankfort hit a record low of 53 while setting a record low high temp of 74.
Bowling Green set a new record low with 54 degrees and only managed to a high of 75. That marked the lowest high for the date.
Paducah recorded a record low for the second day in a row. Sunday’s 59 tied the old record.
Covington tied a record low of 54 degrees.
Ashland also tied a record low with 52 degrees.
Lexington was one degree off the record low and record low high temp.
Again… the weekend chill has been nothing short of historic and the month is on pace to challenge for the all time coldest July on record for many locations. Amazing!
The weather out there today will feature some more clouds and a better chance for showers. Those showers will be more widespread across eastern Kentucky. You can track the showers here…
The effect on temps today will be noted as the areas with the clouds and showers may stay very cool once again. Areas of eastern parts of the state may have a very tough time getting past readings of the past few days. Again… it’s about where the clouds and showers set up. Areas into central Kentucky will likely be a few degrees warmer with mid to upper 70s. Keep in mind… that is still roughly 8-10 degrees below normal!
How does the rest of the forecast shake out? Here ya go…
Let’s break it down for you…
1. Tuesday may try to be the nicest day of the whole week as we see more in the way of sunshine. I still cannot rule out a shower or two… especially in the east. Temps will make a run toward the low 80s.
2. A cold front will move in Wednesday with showers and thunderstorms increasing. Some locally heavy downpours will be possible and temps will likely struggle to get past 80.
3. A scattering of showers and storms will be with us for both Thursday and Friday. Temps into the lower 80s may be as good as it can get for highs.
4. Looking down the road… we see the chance for more showers and storms next weekend as a wet pattern tries to take hold of the area through the end of the month. I still cannot find anything that looks like real summer over the next few weeks. Seriously!
5. I will be back at WKYT today and Tuesday doing all of the evening weather shows. I will then get back to WSAZ later in the week and will be trying to keep my Doppler’s straight!
That’s all I have for you guys this go around. Check back for any updates. Have a great Monday and take care.
Thank you Chris for everything. We are so lucky to have you. It wonderful how both stations can work together to help each other out. I dont see why Chris can not do the web weather at 4, and WKYT 5, and Fox 56, and TG still do the 5:30, and 6 and 11, It would allow the station to have two weather anchor in severe weather, and a backup weather person. Thank you Chris- I am go glad that you, and TG have a close friendship.
Thanks for the updates Chris. I really like the new 5 day map. It helps sum everything up nicely. Keep up the good work.
Chris, for what part of the state is your 5-day forecast targeted? I’m guessing for the Lexington area, based on your comments today.
I want my summer back! It’s bad enough that school starts back in 2 weeks!! At least our electric bill will be getting a break!
Well, I am glad to see that we get you for a couple more days, at least. Don’t get me wrong, I love TG, but we just miss seeing you. So, having you has been a treat!
We are at 72 degrees here at this time. A few puffy clouds, and mostly clear skies. We might just make it into the lower 80s today! It was 54 on my back porch this morning.
great to have you for 2 more days chris!!!

Winter is just around the corner. Whats your thoughts on the coming winter Chris or is it to early to say.
