Good Tuesday everyone. The weather across the state is actually looking pretty good for a change! While much of eastern Kentucky enjoyed sunshine and temps in the low 80s, central Kentucky got hammered by storms while the west baked!
The west will continue to bake today but the threat for any thunderstorm action will be much lower today than in recent days across the entire area.
Highs will be in the low to mid 80s for most of central and eastern Kentucky today with the west seeing low to mid 90s once again. The poor folks out there have been seeing heat index values of 105+ in some cases!
Wednesday will look a lot like out Tuesday so there should be no big changes over the next few days. It is once we get to Thursday that we watch for the next front to approach the state from the northwest. This front will bring the threat for showers and some strong thunderstorms by late in the day…
NAM Thursday Evening
Temps will come down a bit for Friday as the front swings east. We are likely to get into a quick surge of very warm air on Saturday as yet another system works in for the second half of the weekend. Showers and storms will increase Saturday night into Sunday as a wave of low pressure passes through. This should signify a pattern flip as the models are jumping on a northwesterly flow starting back up around here as a big trough digs in across the east. Here is the European model for early next week…
That setup would try to put us back into a cooler and ,perhaps, wetter than normal pattern next week. We shall see!
That’s all I have for you guys right now. Have a great Tuesday and take care.

Thanks Chris! A pattern change to cooler weather makes me happy. Even though central Kentucky is getting only the very edge of the heat, the lack of a breeze is making it quite stifling. Those of us with asthma and other breathing conditions are not having a fun time. 🙁
My poor mom and other relatives are truly melting in the Houston area. Why is this ridge just sitting there on top of them? It seems the past few summers have had a ridge of high pressure sitting on one part of the country and making things very hot and dry for those people. Why does this happen? Any chance a tropical system might push it away, or will this ridge keep tropical storms away from Texas?
Gee, Chris, could we not get warm temps and less rain here for a few days at the same time? I mean, after all, it IS officially summer now. 😉
The wetter than normal pattern you are talking about is, at least, not the arid, dry one we have had for the past two summers. I will wager that it will all even out for the year, except we may be above normal on rainfall.
by the way, that storm tha moved thorugh here yesterday about 12:30 brought us another inch and a half of rain at the house. Today, it is already in the lower 80s here…..and humid.
Good morning everyone. Chris, if anyone wants this humidity we’re having, go ahead and give it away. Heck, we might even take up a collection and offer to pay someone to sweep it out. UGH!
I’ll take the heat, garden needs it, and as far as the rain goes. Thanks, we’re okay for now.
too hot today time for fall!
I saw an article that said it is so hot in Wisconsin, that the roads are buckling!! I love the heat, the humidity, I could do without. I agree with gardengram, our gardens need some hot sunny days.
OK really weird, NWS just interupted programming for a severe thunderstorm warning for my area,…………….nothing going on! What is up with that…………:)
