Good Friday to one and all and welcome to the end of a busy weather week! The weekend is upon us and so is MUCH better weather across the state. Highs are going to soar over the next few days as some sun returns. That is sure to put a few
on a lot of faces across the area.
Before looking ahead… let’s talk about just how chilly of a June day we had across parts of the area. Lexington had a high of 60 and that came at midnight and was the only time the temp made it out of the 50s. The afternoon hours featured temps hanging around 55 degrees and that folks is INCREDIBLE for this time of year. If we leave out the midnight temp and solely focus on the afternoon temps… Lexington had one it’s coldest June day’s on record. The coldest high temp ever recorded in June was back on the same day in 1945 and that was 54 degrees. That gives you an idea of just how cold it was Thursday. Ashland hit 58 for the high temp making for the 3rd coldest June temp on record. Again… this was a pretty cool (pun intended) weather day! ![]()
As for the weather today… clouds will be slowly clearing out from west to east this morning into the afternoon. The far east will still have the threat for a shower early on and you can track them here…
Temps today will range from near 80 in the west to the low to mid 70s in the far east where clouds will hang on longer.
The rest of the weather goes a little something like this…
1. Saturday looks good with highs into the middle 80s under partly sunny skies.
2. Sunday will be almost hot feeling as temps soar into the upper 80s. Can we get a 90 with the wet ground? Hmmm…
3. Early next week looks very warm and muggy as temps will again be back into the upper 80s to near 90 for Monday.
4. The threat for showers and thunderstorms will return late Monday into Tuesday as we try to head back into a stormy pattern. The threat for severe weather and heavy rains could very easily be with us during the middle of next week.
5. Cooler air will also return for the middle and end of the week.
6. Watch the tropics over the next few weeks as there are some indications of something trying to pop early.
Have a great Friday and I will have updates through the weekend as usual so check back. Take care.

Thanks, Chris, for ordering a beautiful weekend. and for ordering a beautiful day for today, since it’s my anniversary! (33 years today!)
We didn’t get too cold yesterday. It was in the lower 70s here for a big part of the day. Yesterday evening, it got cooler, but that was fine, too. good sleeping weather!
When you start talking tropical, I get interested! If you are talking about something popping, are you thinking possibly west or east coast? My daughter is getting married ont he 20th, and they are going to Daytona for their honeymoon. I hope the weather does not turn rough for them.
Thanks for keeping us updated, Chris! Everyone have a GREAT Friday, and a weekend to match!
Thanks Chris! Happy Anniversary Coffeelady! I for one am ready for these clouds to roll out. We got the little man a baby pool and Im ready to watch him play it.
It’s funny how the one season Im not a river guide, there is plenty of water and its much cooler than usual.

It does snow in June, after all. Thanks for that weather tidbit, Pike Co. Ky.
Fun to see. A little snow in June, a little of this, a little of that….fun stuff.
🙂
Now let’s just hope everyone stays safe (and maybe has some fun too)–that’s the main thing.

Chris, I have been looking at today’s severe weather outlooks from the SPC, and I think they should expand that area of a slight risk a little bit further east. It’s okay if the keep the western edge of their slight risk in the same place, but they should probably extend the severe weather potential for today a little further east, especially into Texas and Oklahoma.
Thanks 🙂
