Good Tuesday, everyone. It’s another stormy week here in the bluegrass state and that likely spells trouble. Additional rounds of thunderstorms could lead to a renewed high water threat before all is said and done. Those same storms could also pack a severe punch later in the week.
Some thoughts before we hook you up for some tracking:
– The showers and storms out there today could be strong, but widespread severe weather isn’t likely. Heavy rain will be the main concern as some areas could pick up 1″+. It won’t take much to cause some local high water issues.
– Temps really take off for Wednesday and Thursday and could hit 80 degrees.
– Humidity levels really increase and that only adds to the amount of moisture for these storms to tap.
– Clusters of storms will continue to be possible on Wednesday. We have a slightly better chance of seeing some strong storms during this time.
– The greatest chance for severe weather continues to look like it comes Thursday into Friday. This could be a significant outbreak from the plains states into the Ohio Valley. The exact impact on our weather remains to be seen, but you should stay alert.
– Slightly cooler and drier weather moves in for the weekend. Another round of storms should follow that up early next week.
Let’s do some tracking…
Today’s risk area
Current watches
Enjoy the day and take care.
I guess April showers bring may flowers.
When the various models lose to CB over weather events, I hope they at least shake his hand afterwards.
Looks like more of the rain went south of that bottom white arrow from last night’s telecast than between them. Though, at the time last night, that did look like a good bet.
You might want to look again.
As much as I enjoy the sunshine, I also love how it is right now outside my house when it’s not raining or lightly so. Stay dry, everyone!
As CB just tweeted, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch now out which includes part of the western Kentucky into Louisville. This watch is over the same general area inwhich the SPC earlier raised the severe threat to a Slight Risk. Not much of a twister threat (that could change by Thursday), but there still could be damaging winds and spotty large hail.
Not to mention some heavy rains on top of already saturated grounds. Stay safe everyone.
Could not believe the rain on the way home earlier here. Just absolutely pouring. Wish I could have missed that.
Not really looking forward to a lot more rain. But nothing I can do but enjoy it I guess. Might get the trunks on and take a dip.
Hope everyone stays safe.
Wind damage and roof damage coming out of Evansville…Now, in Spencer County, east of Evansville, trees down across Hwy 62. If this holds together, locations just west of and including Louisville could experience wind damage.
I am still praying for no tornados for ky this season.
Severe thunderstorms moving into my area….
Hang on Mike. Radar in your area looks unfriendly.
Lots of lightning strikes here and heavy rain. Wind not much of an issue, gusts to 30 mph. Rain is now slackening here.
I guess it’s spring now?
It is bad here in Burgin….wind and lighting is really bad
sirens are going off now that the storm is over…..
Heavy rain starting in West Irvine!
Weinberg tweeted a pronounced hook echo on radar near Irvine. Take cover.
Interesting pics and videos on CB’s twitter feed of that possible funnel cloud/twister south of Richmond KY. It may not be too surprising if the NWS sends a survey crew to further confirm if there was any touchdown.
It’s important to remember that you don’t always need a visible funnel to have a tornado. There can be a visible dirt/debris circulation on the ground and a visible funnel coming down from the cloud but the rest of the tornado is invisible.
Here is a couple of time lapse videos I took as the storm came up 499 about 4 miles SW of Irvine!
