Good afternoon everyone. After a night of snow and ice across most of the state… some areas are gearing up for an out and out ICE STORM for the rest of today into the overnight. This is going to cause some serious problems, including the increasing possibility of power outages.

Here is a look at the warnings…

The regional radar continues to show heavy precipitation moving into and across the state…

Tracking the 32 degree line northward is going to be a task this afternoon. Here is Kentucky Mesonet for your tracing pleasure…

The RUC continues to lead the way in terms of picking up on the low level cold air that is in place across the region. It continues to suggest that the 32 degree line will be putting the brakes on through the evening. Check out the RUC temperature forecast for 11pm tonight…

That shows the 32 degree line from near Louisa to Berea to around Bowling Green. The northern and western parts of the state remains in the 20s into the evening. If that’s the case… look out folks as this is likely to become a significant ice storm. Here is a rough map I have put together for you…

Areas north of I-64 picked up between 4 and 6 inches of snow overnight into early this morning. Throw ice on top of that and you have the recipe for tree limbs and power lines to start to sag and perhaps come down. I strongly urge folks in the ICE STORM area I have outlined to please be prepared in case you lose electricity.

Everyone changes back to snow from northwest to southeast late tonight and early Wednesday and this will likely throw down several inches of snow. Another system dives in Thursday night and Friday with a light snowfall and that may be followed by a system we need to watch for later Sunday and Monday.

Please keep posting your weather and I will have more updates. Stay safe and take care.
