Good Tuesday, folks. A massive storm system is slowly working across the plains and continues to throw some rain our way today. This action takes a break later on before kicking into high gear on Wednesday. That’s when some very gusty winds join the party. As we get into the weekend, something else tries to pump up the jam at our weather house party.
Today starts out rainy across much of central and western Kentucky. That rain scoots off the north later today as winds increase and some sun appears. Temps hit the 60s.
The heaviest rains moves in Wednesday as a band of thunderstorms slowly moves from west to east across Kentucky. Winds may also gust to 40mph during the day.
Colder air moves in late Thursday into Friday, but this is a normal chill. A bigger blast of cold swings in Saturday as another front crosses the region. This will be a very windy system that has a big temperature crash behind it. It also has the chance to give us the first flakes of the season. The European Model really digs a system into our region and would produce light snow…
That’s a pretty wrapped up looking system! Interesting.
The GFS isn’t as strong, but still spits out the first flakes…
The Canadian does too…
The GFS temps…
If the European Model verifies, those numbers would be even colder. If!
Speaking of the European. The latest “weekly” forecast from the smoothed out European Ensembles is out for the next month…
Snowfall
Temps
I will have another update later today. Until then, take care.
Boo! The long range snow forecast stinks through December 18th with only a few inches forecasted…wishful thinking would be a few feet instead!
Start showing some of that bright pink up in Michigan and Northern Plains and then we are talking:)
Wait. What. Bam?
Thanks Chris. I get to work this weekend so it looks like I am going to be bundling up big time! NOT sure I am ready for snowflakes, but then again, next week is Thanksgiving and most of the stores have already forgotten that, and moved on to Christmas. So I guess its about time to see some flakes. (Nothing could be much flakier than the previous sentence.) 😉 Anyway, maybe it will stay dry today and
we can get through one more day before this all starts in earnest.
Have a GREAT Tuesday everyone, and GO CATS!!!!
I typically consider myself a smart person, but could someone please explain how the temperature forecast map works? Is that mean temp, variation from mean, actual, etc.?
The Temps on the map show how much above or below normal the temps during that forecast period will be. By the way the temperatures are in Celsius.
Thanks! So, based on that, Kentucky seems to be forecast as relatively normal temps, on average, through December. Is that correct?
Yes.
Well that isn’t so bad. Are the European models like this very accurate?
I need some help finding the models Chris posts. Especially the “The latest “weekly” forecast from the smoothed out European Ensembles is out for the next month…”
I want to be able to use them with my students.
I have tried clicking the links but just have not had any luck. Thanks
I only have access to a couple of the European forecast maps. Most of their service is a register and pay for type of service, I think.
Thank you Mike S. That is what I thought too. But I am just getting started looking at the models.
