Good Wednesday and happy turkey travels. Today is the busiest travel day of the year and it’s also the day we pay tribute to one of my all time favorite movies… Planes, Trains and Automobiles. We’ve been doing this for many years now and it’s a true blog tradition. This movie is a classic for your friendly weatherdude and I highly recommend checking it out.
Nice weather rolls on out there today and into Thanksgiving Day. Enjoy it because it goes downhill quickly from west to east on Black Friday. That rain will become heavy at times by Friday night and then we get into waves of rain over the rest of the weekend. There’s even a tropical connection to a Pacific system…
That moisture then crosses Mexico into Texas and then winds up into our region this weekend and early next week. This would be the second time in the past month or so that moisture from an eastern Pacific hurricane worked into our region. That’s actually pretty incredible.
Back to the weekend and the rain train that rolls through here…
With temps in the 40s, that’s a cold rain in our part of the world. Heavy rain numbers are a good bet during this time.
Another, more pronounced system then works in here for Monday and Tuesday…
2″-4″ of rain may fall from this Friday through next Tuesday. Something for us to watch closely in the days ahead.
Much colder air sweeps in behind this system with the possibility of some snowflakes showing up. Another system will then swing in here from the southwest later next week with the threat of rain or snow.
I’ve shown you maps on just how warm all the oceans are right now. I wonder if that’s contributing to the insane rain numbers across the oceans over the next few weeks. Check this out…
Again, that’s something else that has an incredible look to it.
I leave you with one of the classic scenes from my beloved Planes, Trains and Automobiles…
I will have another update later today. Take care.
Been a dedicated reader and blogger for nearly six years now. Not only is this one of baileys favorite posts, but this is a sentimental one for a lot of us. It kicks off the winter season on the blog! Bailey the best at what he does. Happy thanksgiving to all and welcome a ferocious winter.
Stay safe out there everyone.
Driving is the most important thing you do everyday. Don’t put your life at risk or risk the lives of others by how you do it. Be alert and don’t live in your phone or up your own backside while behind the wheel.
Especially pay attention to where our emergency services people are on the roads!! If you dent Jeff Hamlin’s ambulance, he’ll likely turn you into his next customer. 😉
Also, if you see an Ohio or Tenn. license plate near you, expect the worst.
MY bold prediction for winter (“wind driven storm”, that’s still cracking me up this morning) is that we will have 2″ of more of snow for Christmas Eve and it will bankrupt that jewelry store who advertised on WKYT during the Winter Forecast segment. “All purchases from now until X will be free if we receive 2″ or more of snow on Christmas Eve.” Get your winter voodoo dolls ready!
Thanks for the love, buddy! 😀
I will be off tomorrow.
Looks like this winter won’t be as exciting as the past couple we’ve had. Still hoping we can manage at least to get a coating at some point.
Maybe next year we’ll have a good one again!
I agree CoalMiner D, I look forward to the Planes, Trains…post. The season has begun!
I still think we will get a shut down snow storm…its November…WAY to early to be throwing in the towel
