Good Sunday evening everyone! Just to tease you a little bit about the snow… I have added a few weather cams from the areas getting in on a nice little early season snowstorm.
Joliet, Illinois
Plainfield, Illinois
Eaton Rapids, Michigan
Green Bay, Wisconsin
As far as the weather across Kentucky is going… rain will continue to mix with some sleet and snow from west to east over the next few hours. The precipitation should increase rapidly once again later tonight and carry us through Monday and Monday night. The best bet for accumulating snows will be late Monday into Monday night when an inch or two will be possible in some areas.
More on all this and a look at arctic air and snow chances for later next week and weekend coming up. It’s a fun and games pattern folks and December is still a few hours away! ![]()
Take care.

I’ll take anything we can get.
BTW: Did I miss the winter forcast, or did you not put that out yet?
Thanks Chris!!! Always appreciate all the hard work and dedication you put in to doing this weather blog. Hope we get some snow out of this system coming in on Wednesday. Anyone have any thoughts on that. Is it going to be the same as this system? Everyone be safe out there tonight.
Thanks Chris! No matter how much we get or how little…I am just gonna be happy to see snow! Makes the holidays a lot brighter with snow! And my Santa Claus, out in the yard will be very happy with a white ground 🙂
Tammy, you couldn’t tell the NWS in Louisville there was even an outside chance of snow for midweek. They’re calling for highs in the low 50’s on Wednesday. Can you believe that? That high, even if it verified, would likely come at 12:01 A.M. Not unless the next cold surge slows down tremendously will that forecast hold up.
I can’t say I blame them for using the “play the averages” card, but if they were in control of our weather (thankfully not, for if they were, we would have normal temperatures, normal precip, and never any snow.) 😀

Official Document follows, copied from NWS Louisville’s website at 7:54 PM ON Sunday, November 30, 2008—-
From Long-Range Forecaster AL’s report (as depicted at the bottom of the page):
“WEDNESDAY-FRIDAY…
TROUGHING OVER THE CENTRAL CONUS WILL AGAIN AMPLIFY AS A STRONG NW
FLOW DIVES INTO THE NATIONS MID-SECTION ON WEDNESDAY. A SOUTHERLY
FLOW WILL CONTINUE HERE AS A SHORTWAVE DEVELOPS OVER TEXAS AND HELPS
STRENGTHEN A SFC LOW TO TRACK FROM THE SRN PLAINS TOWARD THE EAST
COAST. WE WILL BE ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THIS…BUT OUR TEMPERATURES
WILL BE WARM ENOUGH WEDNESDAY…HIGHS IN THE 50S…TO SEE RAIN
SHOWERS DEVELOP ESPECIALLY IN THE AFTERNOON. HAVE 40 POPS OVER THE
WEST AND SLIGHT CHC OVER THE EAST FOR WEDNESDAY. THE STRONG NW FLOW
NORTH OF OUR REGION WILL KEEP THIS SFC LOW TRACKING FURTHER
SOUTH…AND WILL SKIRT OUR SRN CWA. SO WEDNESDAY NIGHT WILL HAVE
HIGH CHC POPS SOUTH AND ABOUT 40 POPS NORTH FOR OVERRUNNING PRECIP.”
So by their words, it’s going to continue doing what it has been doing. Warms up, rains, cools off, a few flurries and rain/snow mix with little to no accumulation.
Hey guys, can I go ahead and paste this to my forecast map for the next 16 weeks?
=Aaron=
Thanks Chris for the pics…NWS Jackson’s discussion looks GOOD for snow lovers on Saturday:
A CLIPPER SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO MOVE INTO THE AREA ON
SATURDAY…BRINGING ANOTHER CHANCE FOR SOME SNOW. THIS COULD BE A
GOOD UPSLOPE SITUATION SETTING UP.
Notice the words “GOOD UPSLOPE SITUATION”? I know it is only Sunday and things could change, but I too think that Saturday’s event has potential. The full discussion can be seen here:
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=JKL&product=AFD&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1
As far as this current system (tonight through Monday night), they are not ready to issue advisories at this time. They are thinking that the QPF moisture values are “paltry” and that there will be “a lack of…decent upslope flow.”
Jim Caldwell gave his out look basically for snow fall he is giving he following
Highest Elevations: 26″-32″
Everyone else: 15″-23″
Who knows what might happen tonight, tomorrow,Wednesday, or even next Saturday? That’s why it’s called a forecast,of what may happen as it relates to weather. Chris isn’t perfect, but, people, he’s well close. lol So…when we feel let down, let’s realize that if it weren’t for Chris giving us the hope for snow, we probably wouldn’t get it anywhere else. Chris is gifted, and I trust him. After all, he did clue us in WAY before anyone else on this current system. Go, CHRIS!!!!!!!!

… ACCUMULATING SNOW POSSIBLE LATE TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT…
COLDER AIR MOVING IN BEHIND A DEPARTING COLD FRONT WILL GRADUALLY DROP THE FREEZING LEVEL OVERNIGHT CAUSING ANY RAIN TO CHANGE OVER TO SNOW… BEGINNING AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS FIRST. ADDITIONAL MOISTURE AND PRECIPITATION ASSOCIATED WITH AN UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL KEEP THE THREAT OF LIGHT SNOW GOING THROUGH AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT. WITH VALLEY TEMPERATURES RUNNING JUST ABOVE FREEZING… THE MORE SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE LIMITED TO THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS MONDAY… GENERALLY ABOVE 2000 FEET. THEN AS TEMPERATURES DROP FURTHER MONDAY NIGHT… LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE EVERYWHERE.
A DUSTING OF SNOW IS POSSIBLE ABOVE 2000 FEET ELEVATION TONIGHT. THEREAFTER… AROUND AN INCH OF SNOW CAN BE EXPECTED TO FALL AT ELEVATIONS OF 2000 FEET AND HIGHER MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT… THOUGH ELEVATIONS ABOVE 3000 FEET COULD RECEIVE AROUND TWO INCHES OF SNOW. THIS SNOWFALL COULD LEAD TO SNOW COVERED OR ICY ROADS AT TIMES LATE TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
I agree w/ that my thinking is 20 on avg for totals with less recorded at the offical lexington station.
kids your going to school as the NAM shows snow showers won’t move till the morning rush or later which makes sense looking at the latest radar now. still around an inch for most with some 2-2.5 for the highest ridges in se ky.
Mitch,
It doesn’t take much at all for eastern KY to close schools. There were several eastern counties near the WV border who didn’t have it on 11-21, and who had a clue? An inch? In eastern KY…that’s a blizzard…due to the curves and high mtns.
Mitch, the last time I heard someone say on the news “you will have school tomorrow,” was in 1998 when we got our “dusting.”
Saying that this early is almost like a “kiss of death.” But I do have to side with you right now regardless.
Hey bloggers:
Do not get hung up on misses out on a big storm with these one here…
We are in a very active and “wintry” pattern that will provide several shots at “old school” snow storms…
Just because a November storm misses us means nothing…
Keep the faith and we will be rewarded this year… The set is there..!!!
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, Thanks Chris for all you do for us. Looking forward to a snowy winter (hopefully)
Well guys we have had a cold rain all day blah.
I also wanted to thank RhondaB, Debbie,Vicki,William,KP,Marsha, and of course My Patty for your prayers and kind thoughts concerning my precious Slyvester. He is pretty bad tonight. I was up with him last night till 4am,he still doesn’t eat.I even went to Arby’s for his favorite roast beef and he took 2 bites he drinks lots of water, but that is it.I know he is tired of me forcing all this meds down him.I feel I will be saying good bye soon, and i have cried till my husband had to get out of the house today he can’t handle me crying. So maybe Chris can send a few snow flakes my way to cheer me up.Thanks to all my blog buddies and Chris amd I wish you all lots of snow!!!!
I was really hoping for a snow day tomorrow…I have to go to the dentist, and didn’t want to have to miss. Bleh.
I am sooo excited to find this weather blog! I was afraid that when Chris left WKYT he would no longer do a weather blog! I’m praying for lots of snow this winter and will rely on this blog for updates! Chris is my favorite
Crystal i wish we all could be there with you. If i could and i get snow i would sent all my too you. I really wish your cat could get better so you don’t have to make that awful descision to put him to sleep.
then the kids on here will love me if there’s no school.
timing is just off for mon. tuesday should have a better chance at a snow day for some schools even with the light totals b/c of temps falling well below 32.
It is so hard to say good-by. Just remember he taught you how to love.
Crystal,
I’ve not been on here much, but after reading the comments about your cat, I want you to know I feel your pain. I had to put my sister’s dog to sleep after having her for years after my sister’s death. Right now I have a 4 year old pek/maltese with a bad leg after getting hurt, and it’s killing me to see her go through the pain. I think someone stepped on her during Thanksgiving. TOmorrow is Monday, and it’s vet day for my baby. I am male, and I love animals. They’re saints at times. Again, my heart goes out to you. I hope for the best for you!!!!!!
