Good Sunday to one and all. I hope each of you are in the middle of a wonderful weekend. My weekend has been wrapped around the Kentucky Wildcats. The football team laid an egg down in Knoxville and word has it, now former Tennessee coach, Phil Fulmer was seen trying to eat it as he was ushered quickly out of town! The basketball Cats proved they will be a team that can make some serious noise this season! GO BIG BLUE!!!! That win last night saved my sports weekend!!!!

Enough sports… to the weather we go.

Our low pressure is developing quickly on this Sunday and will be moving right on top of us. This means rain and wind will be with us on this Sunday. I am seeing enough dry air at the surface as of this writing that the leading edge of the precip could be mixed with a little sleet or a wet flake before quickly going over to rain.

You can track the precipitation here…

Temps today will be in the low 40s in most areas. Once the low goes by this evening… winds will become westerly and temps will begin to drop. As I have mentioned… there is not a whole lot of cold air to work with behind this storm. Wet snows will develop from west to east Sunday night as temps flirt with the freezing mark.

Monday Morning

Monday Evening

Temps for Monday will be holding steady in the low to mid 30s. Wet snow will continue across the entire region with a rain drop trying it’s best to mix in. A slushy accumulation will be possible with the heavier bands of snows. This will be a windy day too so visibilities will be reduced.

Temps will crash into the 20s pretty quickly Monday evening and this is when roads could get slick as widespread snow showers continue. A good inch or two will be very possible across central and eastern Kentucky by Tuesday morning. Both the NAM and GFS are showing our accumulations…

NAM SNOWFALL

Don’t look at any individual point on the map and say I am getting X amount of snow. I am ONLY showing that map to get across a general point. I would actually expect parts of southeastern Kentucky to get a little more than what I am talking about… especially once the northwesterly winds kick in Monday night.

Temps Tuesday will be cold with upper 20s to low 30s for highs.

Our arctic front will be making some serious headway toward us by later Wednesday. It is moving so quickly that temps may not recover very much ahead of it. Low pressure is likely to develop along the front as it is surging through here and this will likely enhance the precipitation for late Wednesday into the first part of Thursday. Here is how the GFS is seeing it…

Wednesday Evening

Wednesday Night

Thursday Morning

Notice how quickly the cold air (blue lines) catches up to the precipitation. That would be a rain to snow situation and the GFS is putting down a couple of inches of snow Wednesday night and Thursday morning across the state. This is an arctic front so the above depiction is very possible. Now… if we can somehow get that low along the front to deepen a little farther to the east!

That is the coldest air of the season coming in for the end of the week into the weekend. Temps in the 20s for highs will be likely for at least a few days. I see the computer based numbers are coming in colder with each run… I love it when an evil plan comes together! haha

It continues to look like a very wintry pattern across the country setting up over the next few weeks. One loaded with snow and cold potential and you will see the models dancing about in the coming days with each individual storm. The first one will be coming next weekend… that is unless this Wednesday night storm tries to overachieve!

I will update later today and hope to have a video forecast for you. Have a great Sunday and take care!
