Good Monday, folks. As hard as it is to believe, November is wrapping up out there today. The month has been a warm one across our region, and things have turned wet lately. This wet weather continues out there today and should carry us into the first day of meteorological winter.
Showers will be around for much of the day with another round of steady rain firing up this evening across central and eastern Kentucky. As some slightly milder air moves in on Tuesday, some thunder is even possible. All of this action comes after widespread rains since Friday.
Some areas have picked up better than 2″ of rain since then, and a lot more is on the way for the central and east…
Local high water issues are even possible in the far southeast in this type of setup.
Seasonally cold air comes in behind the departing rain shield Tuesday night. A check of the NAM shows the REAL DEAL cold air staying well to our west…
The upper level system digging in here Wednesday into early Thursday will briefly turn winds to the northwest…
That true northwesterly wind flow means we have a small window for a rain or snow shower. The GFS has the best threat Wednesday evening…
I will talk more about where the pattern goes after this with my next update later today. Until then, it’s all about that rain…’bout that rain… No snow. You know you’re singing that song now! 😉
Have a great Monday and take care.
Chris, after last winter, if the rest of this winter stayed like this, I won’t be disappointed..However, even though this may not end up like last winter, I don’t remember much snow until Feb and March, and there have been many years where Nov, Dec, Jan were boring, only to end up with big snows in Feb/March. So who knows until then. I just hate the overcast days
True…I think even in The Big Winter of 77-78 there was nothing in November or December.
I now have 2.09 inches of rain since mid-day yesterday at the house near Harlan, KY and still raining on my way to work!
You have nearly doubled my total here near Louisville. I have 1.13″ with no rain right now. But, I really do not need much more since my monthly total is at 5.78″.
Yesterday, the CPC had the entire contiguous United States shaded in the above average temperatures for its 8-14 day outlook. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that setup before.
Greetings from Huntington WV. We are wrapping up a top 10 warmest/driest November on record here. The weekend rain amounted to very little about a tenth of an inch Saturday and a trace this morning. The radar always looks impressive to our west but then the rain disappears or falls apart when it gets to the WV border. It has been that way since August. On the positive side the little rain we got did keep the forest fires tamped down through the month.
