Hi Everyone and thanks for stopping by the blog. I promised you a video forecast discussion soon and I am here to deliver. Now… this is not the way many of you are used to seeing me. No bright lights and HD cameras… instead you get web cam quality and candle light! ![]()
This is a rather rough first effort on my part as I ran into some tech problems. These will be getting much better in time as I will be adding new hardware and software here soon. (Hopefully!)
Enjoy…
Take care!

Hey Chris, this is great!!! Great to hear your voice.
Thanks for doing your first ever webcast for us, Chris! I enjoyed it–even though you said you had technical problems it looked like it went smoothly enough.
I’m personally in a tossup zone as to what’s going to happen with next weekend’s storm. Obviously if it takes too long to develop, the colder temperatures will begin to retreat northward and the warm surge of air will spike north just ahead of the low. Obviously if it comes at us and the moisture starts out as rain, we can only hope it will change over to snow sooner and that the storm will be “back end loaded” as opposed to “front end loaded,” but seeing as how it would draw warm air up ahead of it from the gulf, odds would not favor that setup.
Overrunning is not always a good option in this setup either because the severe weather potential that would eventually be restricted the coastal areas of Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and the panhandle of Florida would rob us of a rich moisture supply if the low pressure center isn’t deep enough when and if it crosses just to our south.
The GFS may be alone right now, but it’s also been consistent in placing a storm in the eastern half of the country for some time now, and has done/is doing its usual “lose a storm, then find it later” games, obviously as the window for storm factors and track become more evident. At the same time, other forecast models will begin to latch on to the idea and have their own spreads. If, in a couple of days the storm is still on the GFS for Saturday, we’ll know it’s more than likely going to occur.
Ideally, for snow here, I think we would need this low to deepen and potentially phase just as SOON as it passes to the south and east of the central Kentucky region, that way it can pull down colder air and potentially feed and convective development closer to the low’s center back in a counterclockwise direction (stratifying as it moves northwest) to give us our best shot for any snows over 3″.
Will be a fun week to watch!
Thanks again for the video, and hope to hear more throughout the week.
See you soon,
=Aaron=
Oh Man!!! It’s so good to see you doing the weather again!!! I’m just tickled to death. Great job Chris!
Fantastic! Just like the good old days. Thanks, Chris, for all your hard work.
Thanks Chris! For your first effort at weather cam I give you an A! Seeing your cute weather dude face was great! I hope the models start agreeing on us seeing a little more of the white stuff! What we saw yesterday was such a tease!
Chris that was totally awesome! What a way to start the day! With our favorite weatherman!!!!!! LOVE IT. You are just way too good of a person, not many people care about the viewers they left behind! Please give our thanks to your wife also. She must be a wonderful woman to accept your dedication to your viewers. Again thank you and bring on the snow! π π π
Chris that was great you are so good to your viewers we all are so lucky to have a great guy like you looking out for us. I love the not shaving thing but you look great to me as always. I agree with Chelle your wife must be a great person just like youself to let you devote so much time to your viewer you both are wonderful people.
Hi Chris,
I’m on dial-up since there is no high-speed access in my neck of the woods. I can’t watch the video. π
Will you still be typing out your forecast? I hope so!!
Wow, technology!! I love it. It was great to see and hear you again with full explanations of what is going on with the weather. Thanks Chris for being on the cutting edge of weather reporting. What fun!!
What can I say but OUTSTANDING!! I am as everyone else is so grateful for you and how devoted to your fans (Viewers). All I can say is thank you and please continue to keep up the Great work you do for all of us. And a tip of the hat to your wife. Thanks again. And being retired USAF a salute to you.
That was a great video Chris. I loved it.. Can’t wait for more.. Cant wait to see how the weather pans out either…
This is really super. I will be passing it along to all of my teacher friends as this will be a great learning experience. It also helped me understand the maps a little more. I do hope that the time on it was wrong though. 3:28 am? That is bedtime my friend. I am afraid your family will be upset with us if you keep that up. I really enjoyed my last football game Saturday. A little more snow with a little less rain would have been nice, but we survived. Hope that everyone has a great day.
Chris… most of us on this blog have been with your blogs, since the very first blog when you were at WKYT so We dont need the make-up, the 3 piece suits, and the dog chokers..LOL.. The non-shaven, T-shirt wearing, COMFORTABLE status is TOTALLY O.K. with me. I like the video forecasts, I think it will be a HUGE HIT!!
I’ve been watching that batch of Moisture moving across southern ky/tn. I don’t know if I’m gonna get any of it or not..its breezy, cloudy and 37* here. after a cold morning low of 25* late last night under clear skies.
Tim
cloudy,breezy
37*
Absolutely awesome, Chris. What would we do without ya?
great video chris, a lot of different solutions for late this week.
GFS continues to advertise nasty weather for the midwest on Thanksgiving. That could be good for Kentucky though since it would mean southwest flow and dry wx here…which is always great during this time of year.
As the system invades the Ohio Valley the weekend following Thanksgiving, that trough still looks very deep and almost closes off which could lay down a coating of snow here.
Chris have you been able to track down the errors/bugs we have been encountering lately ?
Chris:
great vid my friend! I just hope you can start showing some ’93 like storms soon….
One more thing… Come Thursday Night, It’s on bubba…!
Steelers are gonna kick some ben-gals arses…. lol
Chris, I…like it. That being said would it be possible to post the maps you discuss in a standard sized format as well? I don’t know about anyone else but I was having a difficult time making out what the small maps where showing? Maybe we can just have your video and the maps in a static display or follow along slide show format?
Overall, grat job though, very cool! π
sleet and snow showers mixing with rain moving across north ky including lex metro roads may slicken up a bit. drove through a nice one by the fayete-woodford line about 10:15.
Great video! I love the explanation of the maps. At times with the print I think I was really guessing what I was seeing. Now I feel like I am ready for the possibilities for the next week! Thanks for all the hard work to go above and beyond what you have to do.
Hey gang! Thanks a bunch for the nice comments. Like I said… the videos are a work in progress and will improve over time. I will be doing regular posts as well… even on the days I do video forecasts.
Looks like a mix of rain, sleet and snow showers will continue to roll acorss the state his afternoon before changing to snow showers this evening.
Update coming later…
at 11:30 Light, snow/sleet mix falling! Don’t really care which, it WHITE! ;P π π π

You give me hope. Our computer system is very old. We aren’t going to update until we get a high-speed connection. Usually videos crash my poor outdated system but for Chris, I shall try!!
yea Crystal good to see u, I still have my goat. he predicts a BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD winter this year.
and so far I think he on to something.
What gives ?
These long range maps are a lot like “Miss South Carolina” of 2007. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww
nice to look at, but not much substance…
Pouring the sleet & snow here in carter county. One minute is was just cloudy & now its sleeting so bad its covering everything like hail. Its deep! The snowflakes are huge & so are the size of the sleet balls. I have never seen sleet this big before. When it busts they go everywhere. My daughter thought it was hailing & got scared thinking there was a tornado coming. I took about 3 picutes & i’m gonna email them to chris. Hope he shares them & u guys like them.
Sun is trying to peek here in Knox county
can anybody tell me chris’s email address so i can send him these pics?
Looks like that huge storm system progged to be in the midwest on Turkey Day now doesn’t show up on GFS at all. However, this is the first runs in days that doesn’t show it…so let’s not bite yet.
Megan, I went back a few blogs and found this email, hope it helps! chrisbaileyweather@yahoo.com π
how do i send u my vids? whats the emal addy?

wow thats shocking π Sounds like same old song and dance
It is POURING snow again here in carter county, I would take another oic but as of this typing we are experiencing white out conditions. The roads look very wet & slick & the snow is coming in, in sheets. U can watch it come towards us. We can’t see the road or hills or anything. Be safe, I feel for the people on the road right now cause I can’t see out my window, so I know they can barley see out the windshields.
Great to see the video post up Chris! Interesting take on the weekend, let’s all root for a cold version of the GFS.
Chris that was awesome. Thank your wife for being so understanding. I know with a young child it’s got to be hard to do this. You’re great! It was like old times!
Wow, that’s awesome Chris!! I bet it’s great for you being able to get your message across without some producer telling you how much time you have left. π
Love the video blog. It’s so cool how you’ve kept things going for us in the WKYT market.
Megan, You and Chris are HOGGING THE SNOW up there in North east Ky.. the radar has been throwing you all snowshowers all day!!!…TIME to shove some back alittle west and south..LOL..LOL… Nothing more than a passsing flurry and partly sunny skies down here today…:(

chris may be heating up a bit.
this is in the nws LMK forecast discussion for tonight.
HAVE
CHOSEN TO LEAVE FLURRIES OUT OF FORECAST AS SFC HIGH
PRESSURE/SUBSIDENCE WORK INTO THE AREA TONIGHT/TOMORROW.
just as they wrote this light snow showers and flurries are becoming more widespread over the Louisville area and moving our way. I don’t understand there reluctance toward including ch. flurries especially since they took out the ch of precip of their forecast for this am when quite a few areas saw precip.
I’m with you on this one too Mitch. looks like on radar that snow showers are not far from the lex. metro area now and it appears to be a fairly solid band of snow showers coming out of southern Indy into the lou. and frankfort areas.
Wow Chris!
That was LONG! I loved it! Its COLD and GRAY out. Seems its that way here alot during the winter.
