Merry Christmas, folks. It’s been one of the wettest and warmest Christmas Days on record for the bluegrass state. We’ve had one or the other before, but to have the warm temps and heavy rain combo is a super rare daily double. Unfortunately, more rain is on the way this weekend into early next week.

Let me start off with a big Bah Humbug on the lack of Flood Watches over the past several days in central Kentucky. Flooding was a big problem for a lot of central and eastern Kentucky today, and we may see another round or two of high water in the coming days.

Rain and storms return from south to north late tonight into Saturday. MUCH warmer air is pushing this action and that could fuel some more local high water issues. Near record high temps will be noted Saturday and Sunday for some before the cool air drops back in from the north.

This is when a BIG storm takes aim at us by Monday…

EuroThat’s Sunday morning on the left, with Monday morning on the right.

High winds, strong storms and torrential rains are possible with the passage of that Monday/Monday night storm.

Much colder air then sweeps in for Tuesday with the models trying to develop another system just to our east by mid-week…

GFSThe GFS then tries to develop another system by New Year’s Eve and Day…

GFS 2That bears watching with a loaded southern branch of the Jet stream. At minimum… cold air and snow flurries move in as we usher our 2015 and say hi to 2016. Check out this New Year’s Day northwesterly flow…

GFS 3The flip is on.

I will have a full update on a full plate of weather action coming later tonight. I leave you with your Christmas tracking toys…

Merry Christmas and take care.
