Hey gang! I don’t have a whole lot to add right now other than it is GREAT to see a nice little soaking rainfall moving across the state. Track the rains with our updating radars…![]()
This is some good stuff folks as some areas will pick up between one and two inches. Not everyone will get those high amounts… but everybody is going to see some rains and that’s HUGE right now given how dry we are. We will take everything we can get.
The weekend looks good with temps hitting 80 once again and this will carry us into early next week. The next threat at rains will come by the middle of next week as a cold front moves into the region. This will bring temps back to normal by the end of next week.
Help out your friendly weather dude and fellow bloggers and post your weather conditions and rain totals if you have them.

Looks like the rains are behind by about 6 to 8 hours. Could be a soggy commute tomorrow morning into the afternoon also for most of Central Kentucky.
Also, I’d venture to guess the heaviest of the rains will not get past I 65 south of Lexington until at least after 7:00 AM unless we can get some other convective activity to fire up between now and then.
Oops..I meant I-75, not I-65… 🙂

I like the way the radar looks if it were pushed further east. I saw what you wrote on the accuweather blog comment section. Lets hope your right.
WXman: Please explain what you were referring to about the long range outlooks 🙂
Chris: Hope you have a great week in Lexington.
Yeah, Mark….I really think this area is in for it this winter, so long as the storms continue to march just a bit further north and east of the “vortex.” We could have a variety of interesting scenarios this upcoming winter. 😉

Isn’t it funny how the winter would just “Magically” progress from Lakes Cutters to East Coast storms? That just takes, what, about a 400 mile jump to the south and east? They’re predicting bigtime storms to hit the eastern seaboard, but yet the southeast (like Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia) remains drier than normal? Gimme a break! The storms have to start somewhere, right?
Central Texas up through northern Alabama, and the southern two thirds of Kentucky are in the prime target (in my mind right now) for the biggest of the action this winter, and that would mean we’re on the northern side, which means fringe benefit snowfall.
And even then, that’s supposing the storms will be suppressed by the jet stream that far south….AGAIN I mention how in the past 8 years the storms have been further north and west than the predicted track…does that spell out enough for those forecasters?

Looks like a healthy dose of the moisture has started to disperse and go through atmospheric osmosis (is that a concept?) over Central Kentucky. Looks like after all, most of central Kentucky will see a fairly rainy late overnight into early morning until at least noontime.

Thanks Chris…I’m a happy lady this morning. We’ve gotten a pretty steady rain for at least the past couple of hours or so. I think my gauge says 1/10th” and getting more as I write. Everyone enjoy our lazy rainy day if you can!
I had just about forgotten what a rainy day was like. I love it.
Thanks Chris…the sound of rain is VERY good…we need more.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh rain Wonderful wonderful rain! Not near what I thought and wished it would be, but when it is coming down here, it is really coming down! Do not have a rain gauge but I will let you know if the MAJOR cracks in our yard have shrunk any later today!
I can’t believe the wonderful sound I woke up to rain.I forgot how good it sounded lol!!!!! The rain is coming down good in Pikeville. Thanks Chris for all the great maps.
Hi all. Wow, it sure was nice to wake up to rain this morning. We got 7/10″ here. My plants & grass are smiling. I’m looking forward to your week back in Lexington at WKYT, Chris. 🙂
Hey folks help me out. I heard Chris was coming back to WKYT. Is it true? I hope so would love to have him back!!
looks like my rain guage says about 1/4 to 1/2″. not nearly what I thought we would get but we will take it. We’ve had in the last 10 days or so right at 1 good inch so a little is better than none. This morning though there was a nice dome over Madison county but it finally filled in with rain. This rain was on the move; it didn’t waste any time getting out of here. Must be some powerful jetstreams upstairs. The higher winds this afternoon feel like a fall wind. Long range says another week before any more rain. Bummer. CB, how about some flurries the week you are in town???
It’s true, sort of Tammy. He’s on loan from Wkyt’s sister station WSAZ where Chris works now. He’ll be filling in the evening news for next week (I think). So we have him back, but only for a little while.
Thanks so much for answering my question. I just recently found this site and was overjoyed that Chris was coming back. Oh well, I guess one week is better than nothing. Has Chris made any winter weather predictions for this year? Thanks again for answering my question.
You’re welcome! And yep! He has put out some charts on temps and precip for the winter months. You might be able to go back in the archives and find them. It’ll be worth the effort if you like the winter season!!
0.94″ here in Lawrenceburg.
