Goos Thursday everyone and thanks for stopping by the blog. We got a very nice drink of water Wednesday across central and eastern Kentucky and this was just what the weather doctor ordered. Most areas picked up between a half and one inch of rain and this will go a long way in helping out with the dry conditions. I am sure our firefighters and forestry officials are enjoying some much needed down time as well. Hats off to those folks who are always there for us! ![]()
Now that the rains are gone… it’s gonna very warm! Here is the weekend setup with the air upstairs…
That pattern is one that will produce some big time early season snows in the rockies to go along with a cold air outbreak there. It is also one that will give the eastern half of the country a mid october taste of summer. Temps this weekend into early next week will hit the low to mid 80s across Kentucky. Don’t put away those shorts just yet. Oh man… that means I have to pull out the tan in a bottle again for my legs! ![]()
A cold front will approach the state late Tuesday putting an end to the big time warmth…
This will bring our next threat for some showers and thunderstorms. But… most of the energy with that big western storm will be heading into Canada instead of moving our way. Temps will cool down to near normal behind the front for the middle and end of next week.
The pattern continues to look like an active one for the country for the second half of October and is one that can bring some interesting weather across the nation. I don’t think the tropics are finished and that could add to the active mix.
Have a great day and take care everyone!

Thanks Chris now i can go to bed 😉
Thanks for the update Chris. The 80s need to hurry up and scoot as some of us are ready for some cooler weather. Heck, could we even get some snow excitement going into November??
Heh, and the folks at AccuWeather said the summer was over. Hah! Not yet!
This, however, might be summer’s last dying gasp, as I think the overall pattern will shift to a cooler setup for the rest of the month after the next front comes through.
November could have its own warmer spells to talk about, but we shouldn’t have any temps above 85 in that month, I hope. It would add to an increased possibility for severe weather if that were to be the case.
Seems the past few autumns/winters have just seen the heat shut off all at once, and I don’t really like that idea. I’d rather have things cool down gradually. I still hold out that we’ll see our first flurries or even the S word right around Thanksgiving.
I have my reasons.

Thanks Chris! I was glad to hear that rain on the window yesterday. I didn’t even mind driving to work in it as it was pouring! However, I don’t want that heat back. I just want it to be the season that it is and that’s warm days (not hot) and cool nights!
Thanks Chris…while we needed the rain yesterday…we need a whole lot more. PRAY for those in Magoffin County, where they are facing a very severe water shortage.
for the record the 00z GFS has flurries and a hard freeze on oct 23rd. I’m thinking a cool week to end oct we’ll have to see if it gets that cold.
this is one impressive ridge that will set up shop this weekend.
Thanks Mitch nothing had been said about that Chris touched on it a few weeks ago but nothing since
Chris or anyone do you see any cold weather in the next 3 weeks? I hope so but i am afraid it will be above normal?
Hi, guy! I’m absolutely acclaim that way of assumption and everything connected.
