Good Friday afternoon, gang. Rain is rolling across the state this afternoon and will bring much colder air into the region tonight and Friday. This will be cold enough for some flurries and snow showers during this time. From there, we watch arctic air surging in late Sunday. What about the snow chances with all this?
The GFS continues to develop a storm in the south with some moisture from that reaching all the way into southeastern Kentucky Saturday night and Sunday morning…
That would cause light snow to break out in those areas. That’s something to watch for before the arctic front moves in with a band of snow showers and gusty winds later Sunday.
Bitterly cold temps settle in behind that for Monday and Tuesday.
The GFS continues to throw a snow maker our way by Wednesday…
Other models are a little weaker with that system and show a stronger storm coming in behind it by the end of the week. It’s a rather interesting little setup for the middle and end of the week.
I’ll have another update this evening. Until then, track the rain and collapsing temps…
Take care.
Thanks CB! Really hoping we can get some decent snow next week.
The “next week” train started the week before X-mas and shows no signs of making stops until likely Feb.
The nice thing about having very few events for us to bust on, or have evaporate in the days before their arrival, is that it limits the nastiness here in the comments. The bloodsport sort of deal before happened because of multiple busts and misses and the deep chasm between expectation and results that ended up taking place.
Don’t worry though, Feb will deliver as promised in CB’s winter outlook and we’ll all get plenty of snow. Though, I reaaaalllly hope he’s dead wrong about that blizzard.
Ugh, dat ice doe.
by “next week train”, do you mean that there looks like there may be a storm on the horizon, but it does not pan out? I still remember the huge totals predicted for storms last winter. It was so much fun watching those flakes fly during that monstrous storm. My children want to see/hear thundersnow.
so close with the southern storms, arggg not going get any snow with these ARTIC FRONTS..
Arctic fronts with a southern tracking storm a few days later can be big snow makers for KY. The fronts themselves are usually an inch or LESS, but they often create the environment for a snow event. The key is where the lows track. Rodger in Dodger!
Ice events also. Overrunning moisture along the fence is never good. Although where there is ice there is generally big snow close by.
It’s good to see GFS continue to shift towards a less icy solution for next week’s mid-week storm. I’m curious to see what it thinks about the late week storm…
Next week’s Wed event could be icy, it could be a big snow maker or it could be a cold rain (or even thunderstorms). Mr Bailey is showing what’s on the table. The models, including the GFS, will change every day before we get there. Rodger in Dodger!
Will we get any snow accumulations this weekend anybody
Up here in Northern KY we are up to 4.5″ of snow so far (at CVG) for the season. We still have some drifts remaining from earlier in the week.
System for Sunday keeps getting interesting for SE Ky..Noticeable shifts on each run of all models..If we can turn the corner and get phasing then it would be interesting..Have to give props to the GFS for not giving up..
Meh..Gfs looked the same this run..Was hoping for a continue northern shift..Still partial phasing though..We wait..
