Good Saturday, everyone. Cold air is back in the bluegrass state and things will get much colder as we roll through the next few days. Arctic air is on the way and will bring some snowflakes with it. Can we actually get some real snows anytime soon? The chance is certainly there into next week.
Speaking of snowflakes, we will have some dancing about the air today in the form of flurries or light snow showers. Temps will stay in the low and middle 30s, but will feel colder than that with a northwesterly wind blowing.
A storm system across the southeast is going to try and throw a band of light snow across southeastern Kentucky late tonight and Sunday morning. That shows up well on the future radar from the Hi-Res NAM…
You can also see the snow showers and squalls along the arctic front coming in from the north. That swings in here Sunday evening with a band of snow showers…
Winds are going to be very gusty during this time, as well.
Bitterly cold air follows that up with readings potentially closing in on zero for Monday and Tuesday mornings…
Wind chills will likely drop below zero at times over the course of those two days. Highs on Monday may not get out of the teens.
A snow maker is going to try and roll in here Tuesday night and Wednesday. It’s a system showing up a little stronger now on the European Model as it sweeps in from the west/northwest…
With low level arctic cold still in place… whatever snow falls would have a pretty high ratio. That’s something to watch for in the coming days.
Something else to watch for is the slow-moving storm coming in behind that one a few days later…
I will update things later today. Between now and then, make the tracking toys your new BFF…
Have a great Saturday and take care.
So enjoy these blogs i am so excited would love to see a good snow storm. Thanks for sharing.
“Next week” drinking game is still going strong!
Seriously though, the mid-week system no longer “messy” (i.e. ice), and that’s excellent news!
Not want to damp the snow forcast next week, but just watch twc the long term forecast for week of jan25th temps gonna moderate above normal. Go cats!!
There’s been about 10 days that TWC has said the temp was currently 40+ here in Vanceburg in the mornings…and I’ve had to scrape my windshield. So I’m not sold on TWC’s ability to predict temps
This might be a winter record for CB with no threat modes for snow.
There’ s a threat next week!! Models are saying.
Sorry, referring to Threat Mode posts for events. This has a chance at least of maybe possibly being that for at least some areas of the state.
I’m really interested to see the model trends for next week over the course of this weekend. WPC still has central Ky in a decent chance for accumulating snowfall next Wed and the entire state next Thursday/Friday. I’ve heard Chris and several other mets mention that the models will struggle with future events next week until they get a good handle on the Arctic air this weekend/early next week.
Looking forward to updates over the weekend!
Thinking SNOW!
I am a cold and snow lover. This is the longest snow-less streak I have experienced since i moved back to America 11 years ago… (At least for my part of Richmond) I wonder, have we ever had a winter with no measurable snow?
I think so, but surely we will get a few one inch events that crust our cars in salt 😉
Not trying to sound apocalyptic here, but I believe we are now entering the sweet spot of winter now through the middle of February. Transitions seem to have the most impact around here. We will be transitioning from a colder to warmer pattern that will ultimately transition again to perhaps an even colder pattern in February. Where those transitions take place, fun times are ahead, er…if you like wintry weather.
March 7 and 8 2008. There’s still late season hope.
