Good Saturday afternoon everyone! I am getting ready to head out to do a little tailgating at Commonwealth but I wanted to drop by for a quick update we we have some BIG TIME weather changes coming in the next few days.
Here is your breakdown…
1. Hot and humid weather will be with us this afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 80s to near 90 in many areas. Some low 90s are certainly possible in areas getting more sun. An isolated storm is possible.
2. Sunday will start the big changes. Hot and humid weather will be back with temps again nearing 90 or a little warmer. Clouds will be on the increase by the end of the day.
3. Sunday evening through early Monday will see a cold front sweeping across the state. Ike will get caught up along this front and rapidly move to our north and west. This track means we have the threat for strong or severe thunderstorms Sunday evening and night. Damaging winds will be the main threat. As a matter of fat, winds will be very gusty without showers and storms.
4. Monday will see temps some 15-20 degrees colder than Sunday as highs only reach the low to mid 70s. Some clouds will hang tough and a few showers can’t be ruled out.
5. Several models are suggesting a weak low pressure tries to cut off just to our southeast by late Tuesday into Wednesday. This would mean clouds and even a few showers would be possible… especially in the east and south.
6. Highs will stay below normal for the rest of next week. Lows can hit the 40s on any night that sees the skies clear.
7. Overall… our pattern into early October can lead to an early season frost threat for our region. No.. that does not mean this week! ![]()
Ike roared ashore near Galveston last night. Here is where the storm is now…![]()
Here are some images I saved from last night when Ike was slamming into Texas…

I will update again later Tonight or Sunday. Take care and GO BIG BLUE!!!!!

Thanks Chris…PRAY for those affected by Ike.
LAKE WIND ADVISORY for Eastern Kentucky from 10am until 8pm Sunday.
WIND ADVISORY NOW FOR ALL OF KENTUCKY GO CATS!!!!
For those who were concerned about my mom who lives near Houston — she is fine. She didn’t lose power and only a few branches came down. That is a big relief but at the same time it only reinforces her stubborn attitude about evacuating. She will never do it.
My brother-in-law is in Houston with three screaming kids and no power. Various other relatives are also without power.
I feel very sorry for everybody suffering through the mess and the heat and the humidity. It’s way worse down there than the most horribly humid day here in Kentucky. The air is so thick, you can slice it with a knife.
(and no, Texans don’t exaggerate)
I’m not at all excited about the wind advisory. I hate the wind. I hope we get some rain out of the deal. What is the outlook for more than a couple tenths of an inch of rain?
Go Cats!!
Outdoor event last night went without the rain plan…tomorrows wedding will be at 3:30 so probably no rain but I will need to take outdoor things in quickly after the wedding and before the rain and wind hits. Again, I rely on this blog to keep me in the know. Thanks Chris. I have enjoyed watching Ike also….Not enjoyed what damage it did but the radar is great.
Well well well, the ridge is back!
Marklex what will the ridge mean for us???
KP I am so glad all is well with your mom,I will continue to pray for those that have lost so much.I hope we get some rain from Ike but I am afraid the eastern part of ky will be missed.Thoughts anyone???????
I know there was a lot of damaged from this storm, but at the same time so grateful that it never intensified to the predicted 3 or 4. I’m also glad our prayer were answered concerning KP’s Mom. I know he(and her) are glad it’s moved on. It looks like we may not get any benefits from Ike, just wind. The dome is still alive!
I love the exciting weather but at the same time don’t like to see people/animals hurt or property damaged, but with that said, I guess its time to “dry out” once the front sweeps by, but same ole story, we were really never wet!
Patty I am too grateful for Kp’s mom. There is power in prayer!!!! How have you been doing???? Seen any new good books go past you lol????? I too was hoping for rain from Ike but I too am afraid the dome is still alive and kicking. We have to get together before winter(my favorite time) and kick this dome out of here!!!!!!!!!
My bd party went well except cold that night really cool. The ol pool is now closed and I am glad they are alot of work and expensive but I enjoy it,but the work is unreal!! My husband does not want to open it next year,we will see, if i am here I want it open but I probaly wont be here and my husband is always working and on the road and taking care of about 40 apartments haaaaa.I wish he would get out of it but he keeps getting in deeper.Chris I bet had a ball at the game!!!!!!
Patty I forgot to tell you I got some great books for my bd one is the purpose driven life can you believe i have not read that??
They said galvenston is getting storms and rain and Houston has a curfew
GM all. I don’t think we will see any rain. I’ve given up on moisture around here. lol The wind is sure blowing today. My 5-yr-old said it was a blustery day. lol
We had an interesting morning. About 8:15 we heard this loud “boom” & the electric went out. After the technician came and found the problem, we got our electric back. Seems a buzzard thought we would take a seat on top of the transformer in our backyard. :0
WOW what wind! What are the gusts up to now?
Crystal…I’m glad to hear your BD party was fun! You deserve to have a good time and let your hair down on that day! I’ve had a wonderful weekend myself. My girlfriend who I haven’t seen since our kids were little was in town. I went downtown Lex. to stay with her the weekend and we’ve had a ball! We’ve had wonderful dinner conversations, laughed about old times when we were girls together and did the arts and craft thing. It was heaven getting out of the old hum drum routine that has become my life, and reminiscing with good friends.
Like you I’ll pray for all those in Texas!
