Hold on to your hats! What is left of Hurricane Ike is blowing through the Ohio Valley and that is creating some dangerous winds across Kentucky. Gusts of 60-80 mph will be possible across the region into the evening hours. Hurricane force gusts are causing major problems for the state. Numerous reoprts of significant wind damage have been received.
Take all precautions now to protect life and property!!!!
In addition to the hurricane force winds… the threat for some strong or severe storms and tornadoes is with us as well. Here is the latest risk area from the Storm Prediction Center…
Tornado Risk…
Radar…
I will watch the things and update as needed. Take care.

Thanks, Chris. Blowing pretty good here in Staffordsville, Eastern KY.
Yes. The wind advisory was definitely warranted today. We’ve had gusts here up to 35-40 MPH here in Garrard Co. In fact, they woke me up.
Be careful out there, everyone!
Hurricane force winds across central and northern Kentucky. Louisville had a 75mph gust earlier. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
how high of a storm threat do we have today? Seems like everybody else doesn’t think were gonna get anything. so I was just wondering
Wow- just got back from Walmart. These winds are UNREAL. I don’t think the general public is really in tune with it either.
Wow! Little pieces of limbs all over the place here in Woodford. These winds are unbelievable! I hope truckers are taking necessary precautions today.
Thanks Chris for the update…stay safe in the gusty winds, folks.
Chris the wind is not bad at all in west liberty are we not going to see any of this weather?
We have shingle damage to our roof, when we came down the street this morning we could see them flapping up in the wind. About 7 have totally ripped off at this point. Wind is still gusting but less than before. When we are inside it sounds at times like the whole roof will lift off. WOW! Thanks for the update Chris- it was good to see what kind of wind speeds we are dealing with.
I don’t think I have ever seen a hurricane hit land and be gone so fast as Ike did. I mean the thing is almost into Canada for crying out loud. Must be a unbelievable jetstream up there. Oh yeah, not a bit of rain enough to help our developing drough yet again. I am moving to points north, south, east or west of Kentucky because we are jinxed. A bad weather state. Wrong spot for good weather. anyone agree??
Just talked to my family in Northern Kentucky. There are entire trees down all over the place. The neighbor has a tree on their house and another fell across the street blocking the street and taking down all the powerlines. Power here in Winchester is blinking.
This is nuts!! All this horrible wind, major damage across the state, and NO RAIN!!! What’s the point in suffering through this if we can’t one lousy raindrop? I’m not happy. 🙁
My hubby is out of town and we are surrounded by some of the biggest trees in Bourbon County. There is a big branch dangling right over the back fence. If it falls, there goes the fence. I’ve got all the dogs in the house and they want to go outside but I’m telling them NO WAY.
However, as of now — 3:50 — it seems to be a tiny bit less scary. Does anybody have data that the worst is over? Please, somebody!! I’m playing CDs really loud to drown out the sound.
I cannot believe my mom sat through an entire night and day of wind worse than this during Ike. No wonder all those folks who didn’t evacuate say next time they’ll be the first to leave. Except my mom, of course. She still has no intention of listening to “the man”.
Everybody stay safe!
Half million without power in Cincinnati. Parts of my fence are now being blown off.
KP, i know what you mean ky has the most boring weather we have not had the high wind here in morgan co that you all have had which I’m glad we don’t get the bad weather that these places are having but we are in bad need of RAIN
In Richmond…………trees down, roofs damaged and electricity was out for a while…… WILD weather!!!!!!
Well Tim it looks like we won’t have to worry about that 12 inches of rain 😉 maybe 12 tenths if that 🙁
I was in eastern Tenn over the weekend and they have green, healthy looking grass that needs….what’s this?? Mowed. If you folks think we will have a nice, pretty fall this year, think again. It won’t unless we get some big time rain and fast. See, if this were winter, we would be complaining about the snow dome. So we get it year round now. It will be ending soon I think because nature isn’t supposed to be this out of whack. Patient weather fans.
I know really! When I first moved here in 1996 from NC, I thought the weather was wilder here based on some of the events I saw. We always had alot of rain, T storms, wind, ice storm, 20 inch snow. I don’t know what the deal is! My yard is pitiful, worse than last year. Dry Dry Dry. Oh well, it could be worse!
Let the fire alerts and water rashioning begin. Thanks to no rain. I was in east Tenn over the weekend and they have healthy, green grass in need of mowing!!! Wow. I hate to say it but it’s going to be a ugly fall for leaves, unless we get some serious rain..The next 7 days look, surprise, DRY!!!! Chris start posting our drought meter.
Here at NKU the power went out completely for a while. The wind was so powerful it practically knocked me over! The siding came off one of the dorms. Tree limbs are all over the place.
Hi I want to know how you got this template from I like it!
