Good Monday everyone. I hope all of you made it through the huge wind storm of Sunday. This was a very rare event… hurricane force winds in Kentucky… without thunderstorms!! All of this was caused by the remnants of Ike sliding by to our north. One heck of a pressure gradient set up causing our version of the perfect storm.
Winds gusting to near 80mph were very common along the Ohio River from Louisville to Covington. The rest of the region didn’t get off much easier with winds of 40-60 mph being very common. Add it all together and you basically get the destruction of a category 1 hurricane!
Here is an image I saved from early Sunday afternoon showing the system…
Look at how those isobars are so tightly packed!!! For you history buffs… you may want to save that image as you may not see anything like that around here for a long, long time.
Here are a few pics from the Louisville area…

Hundreds of thousands of people across the region lost power and it may take many days to get the electric turned back on for a lot of people. I have seen where at least 4 people were killed during this storm with several more hurt across the region.
An amazing and sad system to say the least.
Okay… let’s move it on to the week ahead-lines…
1. Monday will be a much calmer day with temps in the low and mid 70s in many areas as clouds try to hold on. I can’t rule out a shower for some.
2. A weak system will try to develop to our south later Tuesday and Wednesday and may throw some clouds back into the region. Some showers will also be possible in the south and southeast.
3. Temps will be in the low to mid 70s for highs through Thursday. Some areas that see more clouds can have a day where 70 will be tough to come by.
4. Lows at night will be tricky because of clouds. Any night with clear skies can have 40s for lows!!
5. End of the week and weekend temps will begin to recover some with upper 70s and maybe some low 80s.
6. Our mostly dry pattern will continue… unfortunately.
7. Growing signs of a major shot of early season cold invading the country as we get toward the middle and end of NEXT week! ![]()
8. I have a BIG secret and will share it with you before the week is over! ![]()
Have a great Monday and we will chat again soon… take care.

I hope the BIG secret is that Chris is coming back to Lexington!
i am liking the temps, they really elevate my CHRISTmas spirit.lets hope the big secret is not the same as the last one, that your moving again. I hope your big secret is a major temp drop to start October so we have some early season flakes, that would put my CHRISTmas spirit over the top.
100 days to CHRISTmas!!!!!!
Thanks Chris for the update…looking forward for the big news later this week.
Anytime one of my friends says “big secret” – their pregnant!! LOL
You are a big tease, Chris, but we all love you so….we’ll wait patiently….
I was suppose to have had an outdoor wedding yesterday. Although it didn’t rain, the bride decided she didn’t want to fight the wind and we took it inside. They did take a lot of pictures outside. We had a great rain plan so she was not upset. Such a sweet couple.
I told ya’ Ike was going to bring some severe wx to us if he followed the forecast path. 🙂 Just thought we’d get some rain with it too, but nope just the damage. Gosh…what a day. My anemometer topped out at 46 in Lawrenceburg…but I saw LEX hit 55 not long after that.
Well hopefully some news is that were finished with these hurricanes this yr.
I am so ready for some true fall/winter weather.
MORE BIG NEWS!!!!! OH BROTHER…LOL…SPEAKING OF, maybe the news is that Wynter is gonna have a new baby brother…lol…your getting way behind there Chris..LOL… or maybe we’re gonna get early snow!! or maybe Chris is COMING BACK TO KY TV… or, or, or,…..O.K. its obvious he Drives us nuts with these big secrets..lol..lol
later gang.
Speaking of weather yesterday, We actually got some rain down here. On our way to Church last night it rained really hard on us, and was still drizzling on our way back home last night…this was in Whitley county area around Williamsburg.
Yeah, my brother lives in Louisville, in the Bardstown Road area (one of the hardest hit), and he called this morning to see if I could help him find somewhere to buy a generator. He is coming down to pick one up later today, since they are all sold-out in the Louisville area. He told me that neither he, nor anyone he knows has power, so i sounds like we got off pretty easy here in the Lex. metro region!
My family also lives in Louisville. Power is out all over the place. Sis said she had a hard time finding an open grocery store this morning. When she did, they were throwing out the meat. Kind of sounds like Lexington during the ice storm!
Keep saying that, it will eventually come true. LOL
I just want to know why my posts aren’t posting moderator?? Let’s try this for a test
Hi gang! Just a reminder to post comments on kyweathercenter.com! Take care.

According to my own exploration, billions of people in the world get the mortgage loans at various creditors. Thence, there’s good possibilities to receive a financial loan in every country.
