Hey gang. I have had a looooong week but I wanted to drop by for a quick update on the weekend weather. It doesn’t look too bad. Scattered showers and storms will be on the move across the region as we go into our Saturday.
SCATTERED is the key word here as I do not see a washout by any means. Highs will hit the middle 80s. Sunday will see temps in the mid to upper 80s under partly sunny skies.
Early next week will feature another shot of some storms as a little wave passes through the state. There is a decent shot at a couple days of some heat getting in here before the next front pushes in by the end of the week. Cooler air will then flow in from the north during this time.
I may do another blas from the past for you guys this weekend. Those are fun and you seem to enjoy them so look for one. Any suggestions?
Have a great Saturday and we will chat soon.

Chris. Do you have anything on the Jan 94 storm?
Thanks 🙂
Thanks Chris…have a GREAT weekend. 🙂
Hey, Chris, a biggie for me was the winter of 1977-1978. My son was born in January 1978 and the weather was terrible. I went to U.K. on Thursday, Jan.12 and the snow was already on the ground. It got so much worse. Lex. police were going to get staff and taking them home before finally whoever was at the hospital had to stay and work. When I left the hospital on Tuesday (17th) it took 2 1/2 hours to drive down I-75 (normal 1 hour trip)back home. There were cars and trucks stuck everywhere. They closed I-75 about 30 minutes after we came through. When we finally got home the weather got colder and was awful. The pipe coming out of our cistern froze and we didn’t have water for almost two weeks. That was a long cold winter, but the birth of my son made the positive difference.
Thanks for the update Chris..its kind of boring around here when your laid up with a bad back and nothing much to do but blog.lol… and would’nt you know it the weather is a about as boring as it gets…
Teacher T. that was an awesome yr. for winter weather to say the least…
Chris… how about the Spring snowstorm in April of 1987(I think that was the yr.) I remember it snowed for days.On mom and dads farm I remember they are huge cedar trees the snow had those trees hanging to the ground before the ground got cold enough to support the snow..it was a unique storm to say the least. I dont have any data with me on the depth but seems like it was Well over a foot of heavy wet snow…
Chris what about the floods of 1977?I would love to see what the radar showed in eastern Ky.I was a kid and we lost everything.I do remember we didn’t think no way the water would get us but it did. I was so scared the water surrounded us at 11pm and started coming in the house pitch black and we had to climb the hill behind our house and go to the cemetery where we spent the night dad had taken a car up there thank god but i was terrified and cried all night.I would love to see that radar.
Crystal.. that is a good one! the 77′ flood, down here along the Cumberland River that yr. a Dam broke in Bell county causing massive flooding from Pineville, Barbourville, to Williamsburg then on into Tn. That flood is the one everyone around here uses to guage all other floods since then…
Crystal… That is a good one!!. I remember that flood well as most everyone around these parts do. Here along the Cumberland River the 1977 flood is the flood all others are gauged by. Harlan,Pineville,Barbourville,Williamsburg all were either under water or heavily affected by this flood
Same here Crystal, The early April 1977 flood was devastating to areas along the Big Sandy and its tributaries the Tug and Levisa Fork. I have aerial photos of Williamson during the flood. Downtown Williamson was completely submerged.
Who would be interested in a Fall Blog Party?? Trying to find out how many are interested.
How about the Lexington ice storm of February 15-16, 2003?
That would be fun, but it’s so hard to pick a time or place when everyone could make it. I’d be up for it though. I hope we can work it out’
Chris……how about an older event of some kind maybe from the 20’s or 30’s? My parents all talked about how much colder and snowier it was back in the “good’ole days”.
Tim I would love a blog party and very interested.I guess everyone has their memories of that terrible 77 flood.Tim do you remember how long it rained or what lead up to all that flooding??
I forgot Tim hows that back and how did you say you hurt it?
Sounds like fun! Let me know where and when and if CU isn’t playing at home that day I will be there.
Haven’t posted forever, but the past-storm-stuff peaked my interest, too. My husband was born at home on October 23, 1950, in War Creek, Morgan County. Soon after that, a HUGE snowstorm came in and all activity stopped. I’ve heard many stories about that storm and would like to know more about that time in weather history. His Grandfather died that November, and it has been said if a doctor could have been summoned, he would have lived. It must have been really bad. Thanks Chris, and have a great day all!!!!
Hey folks, I have a reception hall in Richmond near EKU. Why couldn’t we pot-luck it. Go to June-Morning.com. Hey I could tone down the wedding stuff. It holds around 200. I would provide the place free gratius.
I still can’t believe you made me pose like this
