Hi everyone and welcome to the middle of your work week. It has been one heck of a stormy last few days across the state. Tuesday brought a couple of rounds of severe weather to the state with more reports of damaging winds and large hail. We will finally be catching a break over the next few days.
All of this is fine by me as I get set to begin a new chapter in my professional life. I have spent the past few days learning new weather equipment and shooting promos for my new gig at WSAZ-TV. Check out this pic of yours truly in his new home…
Good looking weather center… same old ugly mug!
My first day on air is Thursday and then it’s away we go on the new career. I will link you the new blog and some other stuff about me on wsaz.com in the coming days.
OK… enough of your friendly weather dude. Let’s talk weather…
Hurricane Dolly is heading for a Wednesday landfall across south Texas. The Brownsville area is a likely destination for this Cat 1 80mph storm. This was the call on the blog before it ever got into the Gulf so it has been a well behaved storm. Here is a look at Dolly…

It is showing signs of ramping up a bit as it gets closer to landfall so that will have to be watched for. It’s not a huge storm but will cause the typical damage of a Cat 1 storm (though it has a shot at cat 2).
Here in Kentucky… we get a few days to see improving weather. Eastern Ky will hang on to an early day chance for a few storms Wednesday before everybody goes partly sunny. Humidity levels will be down as will temps. This will take us into Thursday as well.
Unfortunately more storms will be rolling in from the northwest beginning Friday and this may take us through the weekend into early next week. While it won’t storm all the time… some of the clusters that roll through here could be similar to those we just had.
So there we have it… the latest thoughts of a weather dude on the cusp of change. ![]()
Take care.

will we see anything from Dolly or will it just die out completely before it gets to us ?
Chris…….GOOD PIC! I wish I could take as good a picture as that! I hope your new work family appreciates you as much as your blog family does, because you’re much loved here!
We need more rain here in the central part of the state. It looks like Crystal got a whoopin’ yesterday! We could use a spankin here! LOL!
Thanks for the update and te GREAT pic, Chris. 🙂
The rainy pattern since October 1st continues in the western Bluegrass.. Wow. Over 3″ of rain for July here now with a week to go.. Talk about coming out of drought!
I miss you on air terribly but I know from experience how much a move can mean to your mental energy. It is exciting to be in a new place with new people. I like to think of life like a – no not like a box of chocolates but rather like a rubber band that keeps stretching with experiences and people. Good luck with everything in your new position. I’m waiting on a few showers to get out of the way and then I’m going to do a little shopping.
Well it appears that Hurricane Dolly is continuing to strengthen before landfall. As for the 8am update, the winds were up to 85 mph. However, recon has since found a pressure of 969 mb and winds up to 95 mph. Certainly not what those in Texas are wanting to hear right now.
After yesterday, I hope we’re done with storms for awhile. It was so bad at one point here in Laurel Co that we were under a “Code Black” at work (Wal-Mart), meaning that we had to get all of the customers to the middle of the store. The sky was a pea-green color and the rain was pouring down. There was some talk of funnel clouds in the area. I like a good storm every now and then…but that was just too much excitement for me.
As of 9am Dolly is now at 100 mph and has formed a nice little eye.
Thanks Chris for the update, and good luck Tomorrow when the Tri-state gets to see one of the best weather dudes in the business grace their t.v. sets. I hope to get to see it on webtv. Hopefully…
a line of storms developing from Ashland south and west towards casey county. these storms are moving southeast, and should effect residents in the mnts. of south east ky. as the morning progresses.
Dolly’s pressure has dropped to 964mb
WEDNESDAY 8 A.M. TEXTBOOK TEXAS TIGHTENING!!!!
Dolly HD recon pressure now down to 966 mb which is approaching Saffir-Simpson 3. The storm is a solid Category 2.

Chastity, I was in Wal-Mart during the “Code Black”. I agree with you, I can do without all the excitement.
