Good late Friday evening gang. I wanted to drop by for a quick update on our brand new Tropical Depression off the southeast coast of the US. TD 3 is alive and doing well and should become a Tropical Storm Saturday.
Here is a look at the soon to become Cristobal…
Tropical Storm Warnings and Watches are our for most of the shoreline of South and North Carolina. Looking at the latest models… it appears the Hurricane Center track on the map above may be too far to the east.
For us… the weekend will be hot with temps hitting the lower 90s again with a few storms increasing by Sunday with a good shot and showers and storms coming for Monday and Tuesday.

My family in Hampstead/Wilmington, NC are under the tropical storm warning, so I definitely have my eye on how things happen with TD 3. These “homegrown” storms can be a bit tricky as they can develop rather quickly, especially if the center gets close enough to the gulf stream where the warmer waters are. Folks in most of those areas need the rain and hopefully that is all this will turn out to be – a big rainmaker.
Good Saturday morning, and thans for the update, Chris! I hope that the rain you mentioned for us comes to pass. We are getting very dry here in this part of the state! The last round went more north than south, at least for us, so, we could use a good soaking!

Chastity, I have family in NC, too. Though we are not close, I still worry for them when you talk tropical weather!

I’m with Chas on that one. those folks are still in the drought we were in last yr. they need rain and alot of it. hopefully they wont get it all at one time and go from a dust bowl to a fish bowl… well yesterday was sure a hot one. I hope its not a sign of what August will end up being like…if so, come on Sept.,Oct.,… Oh what the heck just bring on Jan. and the snow…lol..

Crystal, the chances are very VERY low of us getting any precipitation from TD 3. However, there is a system developing in the Carribean that bears watching. There is a slim chance at this point that it could end up in the GOM and *possibly* bring us some rain. VERY SLIM CHANCE right now. We’re just going to have to keep hoping for some pop-up showers.
As for TD 3 and 94L, the hurricane hunters are out investigating both areas. Information on their findings should be coming out soon. My untrained eye leads me to believe that TD 3 will be upgraded to Cristobal as a result. We shall see…

Well, the NHC just upgraded TD 3 to TS Cristobal. Pressure is 1007 mb, 40 mph sustained winds and moving NE near 7 mph.
