Good Saturday to one and all. The first weekend of August is upon us and it’s shaping up to be a rather stormy one for the bluegrass state. Rounds of showers and storms will be roaming about the region over the next several days as we make the transition to a different weather pattern.
Let’s give you the Saturday breakdown before we get to the storm tracking tools.
– Storms will be on and off today with dry hours in between. The atmosphere is primed for some very heavy rain producing boomers, so watch for local flash flooding.
– A few of the storms may be strong or severe today with damaging winds the primary threat.
– Highs today will range from the mid to upper 80s for much of the region. Areas that miss out on the bulk of the storm action will say hello to the low 90s.
– Sunday features more of the same with scattered storms and similar temps.
– A couple of fronts will move in during the first half of next week. Each of these will bring a renewed threat for showers and possible strong storms.
– It’s hard to see us not having, at least, some local flash flooding at some point over the next several days.
– The middle and end of the week will feature temps trending downward as highs settle into the normal range for several days. ![]()

Well, if nothing else a lot of people are going to see rainfall today, and when you get to August and September you’ll take any rainfall you can get. So it’s good to see this upper level wave kicking off some activity at least.
Great! I live in Louisville and we NEED the rain. Thanks for the heads up. Bring on the storms and water.
Looks like Lexington is going to miss out on the rain 🙁
Oh well, I was hoping for a good rain today in Somerset as well as for my parents who live about 6 miles northwest of Liberty. At the time I post this the rain appears to be rapidly disappearing from the radar. Also, the NWS in Jackson did have us with a 60% chance of rain and now it has been downgraded to 30%. Hopefully the skies will clear out enough for further destabilization later this afternoon to allow for some stronger showers and storms to pop back up. It is beginning to get awfully brown in my yard in Twin Lakes subdivision near Somerset, KY.
so much for rain
When are the storms going to form over Louisville? Can that happen tonight? Grass is parched! We are waiting for the water…
Heat advisory in the western end of the state is because of all the hot air being generated by the politicians at the Fancy Farm Picnic.
Looks like Louisville’s 22-day 90+ record streak will remain intact.
Unless something drastic happens, Louisville will not reach the 90 degree mark today. Last hour, it was 85. The highest so far has been 86-87.
Whoa dude, Chris. Great minds think alike! You just posted this same info to your twitter account less than a minute I posted this comment on your blog.
Sorry, didn’t mean to insult your great mind comparing us as alike. Just thought it was cool that we posted this about the same time.
