Good Friday, everyone. April is off and running and Mother Nature is about to throw us some ugly weather to kick things off. Several shots of cold air will invade the region over the next week, and there’s even a chance for a snowflake to fly. Nope… this isn’t an April Fool, but I have been called one many times. 🙂
Today isn’t a bad weather day with partly sunny skies and a shower chance. Temps should still hit the 60s ahead of another cold front moving in Saturday. Winds may gust to 40mph at times during the afternoon and evening. That unleashes our first shot of cold with the potential for a Sunday morning freeze…
Temps bounce back into the 60s by Monday ahead of another strong cold front. This one may touch off a late day shower or thunderstorm with gusty winds…
The temps behind that for Tuesday morning…
That’s another hard freeze potential.
A bigger push of cold then slides into the region late Wednesday into Thursday as the pattern takes on a… Gulp… Winter look. Look how much more potent this cold shot is compared to the prior two…
That late week cold shot is a doozy and the models even suggest the potential for some snowflakes. Here’s the GFS…
The European Model…
Temps behind that ugly look…
This pattern has been well telegraphed for the past few weeks, and you’re probably tired of hearing me talk about it. But, you have plenty heads up!
Enjoy the day and take care.
I knew the weather would end up this way! It’s spring break this coming week! Oh, well! Spring in Kentucky!
Perhaps a blowtorch of sorts to offset the cold later on in April.
I’d like to see what the April outlook is overall for temperatures and precipitation. If the temperatures are anywhere close to normal, then we might see some 80’s in the back half of the month.
Thanks Chris. Yes, you have been talking about this for a bit, and with the dogwoods blooming, I cant’ say I a surprised at all about it.
Whenever they bloom, we always have cold weather. (Not to mention my azaleas are starting to bloom as well. That’s a given too. When thy bloom, I wind up having to cover them up! But at least, as you said, we have had plenty of notice! Have a great Friday everyone.
So in southeast Ky we had 2 in. of rain the entire month of March. Oftentimes during the summer we get 2 inches in 2 hours.. Crazy to think about.
Yea…. and on the other side of the coin parts of Arkansas had their wettest March on record with flooding to boot.
A couple other weather sites are forecasting at or slightly above average temperatures for April and not as cold next week as shown here.
Let the games begin!
Burn the heretics!
