Good Monday, folks. It’s a busy week of weather in a different way than we have been used to talking about. Instead of rounds of storms, I’ve got a BIG TIME temperature swing on the way. Some chilly air will be followed by a blast of heat… all in a two of three day period. Oh, and we have a tropical system to track.
Highs today will range from the upper 70s to low 80s with gusty winds ahead of a cold front. That front moves in tonight and Tuesday, and may have a broken band of showers along it. Temps behind this boundary are very, very nice for tis time of year.
As a matter of fact, the GFS is even showing the potential for some record cold by Thursday morning…
Yes, that is showing upper 30s in northern Kentucky. I seriously doubt that’s going to happen, but it’s a testament to the type of trough digging into the eastern half of the country.
Heat tries to build in a few days later, and could send highs into the 90s by Saturday…
Temps may stay very steamy into next week, but the positioning of the ridge in the plains may throw some big thunderstorm clusters our way from the northwest…
That’s wild to see the 540 thickness line over Seattle this time of year. That actually shows up over the next few days into parts of the Great Lakes. There are some very cool pools of air seemingly circulating across North America and it will be interesting to see what they can do.
Speaking of what they can do… Colin has formed across the eastern Gulf of Mexico. We pointed toward this potential more than a week ago, and it’s making me feel good about my feel for the overall pattern. Here’s what you need to track this tropical system as it heads into Florida…
You can also take our exclusive interactive radar to track the storm as it comes into Florida. Live chase cams are also available!
Make it a great day and take care.
Would love to see a crisp morning in June!
The record lows for Thursday June 9 are:
Lexington : 45
Louisville: 47
Frankfort: 43
Bowling Green: 46
Covington: 43
Chris, where can one find this information?
I was specifically interested in the record cold high temperature for Covington for June 12th, when at one point the models indicated the high temperature would be in the low 60’s. Now low 90’s are more likely for my outdoor activity.

Me & Thelma Lou are lovin this forecast. No chances of rain for our neck of the woods for the next 7 days….I know we’ll be needing some but we’re gonna take the nice stuff while we can!
