Good Sunday to one and all. Our summer of storms is taking a bit of a break out there today, as much better air moves in. Make sure to enjoy it because we have a big taste of the tropics on the way. This will be complete with crazy high humidity and additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms.
The amount of moisture gathering in the northern Gulf of Mexico over the next few days is insane. This will be transported northward into the Ohio Valley in the coming days. Here’s the overall setup…
Our first chance of storms will come later Monday as moisture increases from the south and east. Watch how this plume of moisture slowly heads west and sets up on top of the region into Tuesday…
That has a direct pipeline to the Gulf and can put down some big time rains across our part of the world. That setup carries us into the second half of the week. This is when the European continues to advertise a potent setup for heavy rains around here and for much of the east. Watch how this SLOW-MOVING system works from the Gulf right on top of Kentucky…
That’s the setup from Friday through Sunday on the model, and is a very troubling look.
As far as today is concerned, I can still see a scenario that spits out isolated showers and storms in the southeast…
For the rest of the state, this is a gorgeous day with a serious breath of fresh air.
Have a good one and take care.
We’ve already seen 80 degree dew points and 95%+ humidity levels and all without the benefit of a direct injection from the gulf. I really don’t see how it can get any worse than what we’re already used to now.
The rain potential, yeah, that’s really bad news and something citizens and their local governments should take seriously. Keep banging that drum, CB, even if just a few people pay attention as a result I know it has to save lives when the time comes.
Chris what does a LA Nina winter mean for Ky? Everything I have read says it will be warmer and drier? If anyone else can explain it I would appreciate it?? Thank you for all your late nights and hard work.
There may not even be a LA Nina from what i have read from multiple sources
Does this blog require a membership?ive tried to comment and it doesnt show up?
It looks like we might be more along the lines of La nada (Neutral signal) or a weak la nina. We still have the warm pool of water off the gulf of Alaska which has been the main driving force of our past three winters. Some of the analog years that have showed up are from the late `50s.
Glad the humidity was lower today
Listen! I don’t give a flip what you call me or what you think of me! I could care less. But you are an idiot and you need to get a life! You have no business being here, and you are not wanted. You don’t own this blog and you never have. If you have a bone to pick with Bailey do it, but this is not the place. Troll all you want but as far as I am concerned you are dead and buried. Have a nice day. C in BG.
