Good Saturday, everyone. For the past week, we have been setting the stage for the possibility of flash flooding rains returning to our region. That time has now arrived and will carry us into the first half of the upcoming work week.
A front is moving in from the west and is slowing down. This will tap some DEEP tropical moisture from a system along the gulf coast. That entity will actually roll up the Mississippi River Valley and turn the corner into the Ohio Valley Monday and Tuesday.
The models are having all kinds of feedback issues with this kind of a setup, and they are likely showing the heaviest rains too far north and west. Here’s my current thinking on the heavy rainfall and flash flood threat…
Additional showers and thunderstorms will continue into the middle and end of next week.
The models are then showing a significant trough digging into the middle of the country in about a week from now. The GFS shows this farther east…
It then shows multiple days of much cooler than normal numbers…
Again, that may be just a bit too far east, but it does look like our tropical pattern may finally come to an end.
Here are your tracking tools for the day…
Have a great day and take care.
I hope this pattern comes to an end. The low in Lexington yesterday was 77! So far today (as of 6:25 A.M.) it has been 78. The record “high low” for today is 74, set in 1988, so we could easily break that.
Thank you, this continues to be neglected when discussing the “warmth” of this summer.
It was still 78 in north Richmond at dawn. Yucky!
If the heaviest rains do come east just a tad, my area in Franklin/Anderson counties could get walloped. Will be watching the forecast closely!
Very little rain this week in Bowling Green! The baseball fields are DRY and dusty, but I’ve been surprised in the evenings it hasn’t been as miserable as it could be at the baseball field!
Almanac is predicting a brutal wnter
The almanac said the Ohio valley should brace for a slew of snow this winter with freezing temps
I believe Chris posted awhile back that our winter won’t be a bad one, but will be mild. The almanac always calls for harsh winters but never pans out.
I’ll take a few light snows around Christmas and after that I’m done! Here is to hoping we have a light winter!
I don’t recall Chris saying that, but I def could of missed it
Nope he wouldn’t have made a prediction like that so early
I apologize. I really do seem to remember him making a comment like that..something like this winter won’t be as bad as last? I could be wrong..I am no spring chicken, perhaps my memory is failing me..Forgive me friends!
Did a quick mow of the yard before the monsoons hit here in Louisville.
I hope this wet pattern continues into the winter, but not the warm.
I do love snow.
Water rescue from the flooding currently going on down in LA.
This aired live on one of the TV stations down there when the news crew was going along with some unofficial rescuers.
That kid is just great.
